Texans really screwed the pooch here. But what else is new? They've been making boneheaded decisions since their inception. Texans tried to get cute and play hardball. Should have offered a pick right away.
Remember when ClutchFans exploded because we thought the Rockets season was over when they hired D'Antoni? Fun times.
That picture and the look on his face makes me want to punch him in the jaw. Dallas Douche 101. More power to him though, best of luck.
It's gonna be great looking back to this thread in the future. People were saying this guy is a huge risk, a stop-gap quarterback until you find the next guy. Dude decides to retire, and it's time to panic.
Romo will be perfect sucking up to everyone- it's not acting. Romo aways put the "less" in gutless, peeing his pants when the chips were down. So boring, so uninteresting.
I think it's fair to question how committed he would've been to playing football. It's not like the CBS gig pays more - in fact, I'd guess he could've made at least ten times more money here. And while I recognize it was a once-in-a-lifetime offer, let's be honest: he doesn't have to move; he doesn't have to risk further injury; he doesn't have to go through the week-to-week grind of a season (at least not physically); he, more or less, now has an actual offseason where he can hang with his family and play golf every day... I understand and respect his choice (it's the choice I would've made, frankly) - but let's not sugarcoat it: he took the path of least resistance here and I think it's OK to wonder what he would've brought to the team had he chosen football as it's pretty obvious he had other priorities.
MMQB's Peter King believes the door is "still three percent (3%) open" for retired Tony Romo to return to football. Romo left the proverbial door one percent (1%) open after accepting a broadcasting job with CBS on Tuesday. "He misses it," King wrote. "He will miss it in August." King did a podcast with Romo last summer and is of the belief that Romo and believes the "passion and excitement" for playing still runs deep in Romo. Per King, the Texans were serious about wanting Romo once he was granted his release by Dallas, but the Broncos were never really interested. Spoiler Houston wanted Romo. I doubt Denver really did. Denver GM John Elway would have been interested in a low-cap-cost Romo, but wouldn’t have spent much for him; he didn’t want to r****d the development of Paxton Lynch, and Elway still has hope for Trevor Siemian. But the Texans, once Romo was released, were going to pursue him if the price wasn’t silly. Romo has to imagine what that would have been like, playing with probably the best defense in football with J.J. Watt likely back, and with DeAndre Hopkins his new (and calmer) Dez Bryant. I still think the door is 3 percent open to a return to football. He misses it. He will miss it in August. Interesting that he said Tuesday on a CBS conference call it was 99 percent he would not return. “I don’t envision coming [back to football],” Romo said, “but I’ve also seen enough things from ‘I’m not going to Alabama’ to ‘I’m not returning to football.’ Do I envision coming back to football? I do not. You never say never.” http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2017/04/05/tony-romo-retires-television-cbs-dallas-cowboys-nfl
Not sure if o'brian really wanted romo to begin with. People act like rick smith is responsible for the quarterback. After Casserly, It has always been the system that calls upon the qb. The problem is wtf is this system? We're living in Brady Utopia without Brady. Only the Dom Capers regime placed emphasis on drafting a QB as priority one. And that was only because the GM truly called the shots not the coach's system. When o'brian wanted Ryan mallet, somehow N.E magically ended up with a 7th rd pick. So you can't give up a 6th for Romo who owns an alarm clock and can put touch on a 200mph fast ball? Maybe The organization indeed was fed up with the stalling of B.O.B and did take a leap of faith with Brock. Then if that's the case, it was still a good move, the idea behind it. The Kubiak system called for schaubie, almost nailed it in 2011 but it came to a halt with the implosion of #8. Now this B.O.B system calls for a Brady like, lol. May the heavens help us but O'brian can no longer stall that's for sure. Make or break(or quit) time. It'll be interesting to see which qb he drafts in rnd 1 or 2.
You have to admit the Texans FO is generally considered dumb, especially when juxtaposed with the Astros and Rockets who are considered two of the smarter organizations. And I don't think everything is embarrassing, I've said Crennel, the defense and key offensive players are awesome many times. They are getting let down by the FO and O'Brien.
This reminds me of the time Hakeem said he was like 92% healthy. Why that number? Why not 5 or 10? It's way too exact.
The Texans' recent track record is as good - if not better - than the other two organizations in the city. It's not even close, really. Four division titles in six years; 3 playoff victories; one losing season. They've mis-managed the QB position - that's their greatest and, for the most part only shortcoming. It's a BIG one.... but they've won in spite of it and have built a very good team, otherwise.
