MLB Package Alternatives or How to Get Astros Games on it in Austin...???

So I know if I sign up for the MLB package Astros games will be blacked out for me. I'm in Austin.
That makes it kind of worthless.
This is mainly for my son. He'll watch other teams, but wants to follow the Astros.

    So what are my alternatives?

I know there's some way to "trick" the MLB package but I want to be able to use the app on a couple different devices and typically am not fond of doing "jail-break-esque" stuff.

I am happy to pay for it... it's not a cost issue... I love the ease of League Pass, and would like to have that type of ability to watch it on multiple devices, switch between games fast, check out standings, stats, etc. within the app... so want all the things about it... but need to be able to watch the Astros.

    Help....?

Generally, the way to do it is to get a VPN that disguises your location. Technically that violates your TOS but it is probably the most violated TOS there is. :)

Hate to sound old, but is this hard? I'd have to do it on at least two devices. And do you then use the VPN all the time? Or can it just be "on" when using that app? I don't really want it on all the time.

Didn't see anything on reddit mlb that was helpful. What am I missing?

You'll find games put in there every day....and normally there is a nice high bitrate HD stream or 2. You can cast them to your tv etc....if you don't want to go through the VPN and mlb package....

No...you only run it when you need it. See if there is a trial version of Netshade or some other VPN program to see if it does what you want. You should able to install the program on multiple devices. You cannot watch on two devices at the same time regardless of using VPN software. That is a restriction of your MLB account, unless they have changed things.

A little known fact the opera browser provides a VPN service included in their browser. All you have to do is enable it in the settings. It's also much safer than giving your credit card to hotshot shield, etc.

The best reason to own the opera browser and it works flawlessly.

    Thanks @bobrek @Uprising

How would this work, though, with something like the MLB At Bat app? Or were you just commenting in general?

I don't think it work with an app, but if you can connect to the game from the website, it will work.

Gotcha. Probably can do it that way, but the main user will be my 7 year old son, who has mastered apps, but not quite surfing the internet like that.

If only Opera Browser was accepted by Directv Now, I would be able to see all those Astros games that are going to be on MLB network.

Stop playing around and hit up mlb streams reddit.

Cant guarantee it wont give you some malware though.

If you have anti virus you should be good

I'm surprised you can't watch them on Root Sports. They're not blacked out here in Fort Worth on the basic Uverse plan.

I'm guessing OP's provider doesn't offer Root Sports because they're definitely not blacked out in Austin.

A little off topic, but T-Mobile is offering a season of MLB.TV for free tomorrow for customers. Yearly reminder.

This is my go-to streaming sports page when I can't get a game through normal means:

    http://firstsrowsports.eu/

They always have every game I'm looking for, but there's lot of pop ups and malware threats. I would be very careful if you don't stream games often using these type of sites.
