I think both of those guys should have always been seen as fairly long term projects anyway so I'm not sure this changes anything. Neither player was ever likely to play at any point next season.

Jerry Jones to allow teams to contact Tony Romo In his continuing effort to trade Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones sent a message to every NFL general manager giving them permission to talk to his quarterback or his agent about a contract that would lead to a possible trade. Teams interested in trading for Romo can visit with him, but they're supposed to talk about a trade and not the possibility of signing him if he becomes a free agent. The story, first reported by NFL.com, is an obvious step for Jones to take if he thinks he can trade Romo. So far, there have been no takers. The Texans are interested in Romo, who turns 37 this month, if he's released. They have yet to show any interest in giving up a draft choice – even a conditional pick – for a quarterback who has started only four games the last two years because of clavicle and back injuries that required surgery. Before a team trades for Romo, it would negotiate a new, club-friendly contract that would provide protection in case he suffers a major injury for a third consecutive season. This is actually perfect. Disaster would have been if they traded for him THEN he decides to retire. Now they can use that cap space to lock up Hopkins and maybe Clowney.
