I didn't see any sign that December Dekker was coming back. He got the start last night and didn't attempt a single shot. Even Wiltjer put up at least one shot. Taylor attempted 3. Troy Williams put up 12 for chrissakes. When you're missing your superstar along with 2 other starters, you need to pick up the slack offensively.
tough break (literally) for him. Not to bag on him, but we all know he's been in the slumps. And no, there's been absolutely NO sign of him getting back to beginning of season form. He's been scared to shoot cause his shot isn't there. Will definitely miss his hustle, energy and at the rim play, but even that has been come and go. And most of all, if this means more Harrell, that's cool with me. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes... Harrell ABSOLUTELY needs to figure out VERY quickly how to hit a corner three at an ok clip. Hopefully this forces him to. Also, fingers crossed this Williams kid can be the real deal. Let's not forgot Troy Daniels once won a playoff game for us... and became an ok NBA 9th/10th man. And his name was also Troy. And we love our Williams on the Rockets. Probably means more Ariza at the 4 with Daniels in at the 3 ... AND/OR super small ball ilneups... plus Harrell getting time at the 4.
Feigen said Dekker could be out 3-4 weeks. If this hand break is similar to the one Casspi got last month, Casspi was back in 3 weeks. If Dekker gets back in 3 weeks that could be around Game 4 of the 1st round. Not too bad really. So here's hoping!
A key difference: Casspi: Broke shooting hand Dekker: Broke non-shooting hand Dekker should be in the gym doing one handed shooting drills for the next three weeks! I can provide some if he doesn't know any
Given the statistical evidence that Anderson will shrink in the playoffs when teams start taking away the three and closing space, I personally thought Dekker would shine due to his ability to feign a 3 and drive somewhat successfully and athletically. So much for that. For me, this was a detrimental injury to our chances. Dekker seems built for the playoffs while Anderson is not. I hope I am wrong though.
I don't think there's been any report back yet on what exactly he broke. So we don't really know yet that he'll be back for the playoffs.
Wish you a speedy recovery Sam. And also hope that Troy makes the best of his minutes in your absence
yep. surgery is a bit more complicated than just "he broke his hand." I think his recovery may be a bit more lengthy than some have guessed here.
The 3-4 week period sounds pretty standard. My guess is the Rockets will be without him for the first round.
Not surprised considering how much pain he seemed to be in. Really sad to hear because he's really have had a great first season playing. I'm very glad Troy Williams had such a great debut because he might get his PT.
Dekker was a fantastic backup 4 in the first half of the season. His stroke looked like it was coming back. This really sucks, we are not talented enough to lose our 8th-9th best player. However, I think Harrell will be shooting thousands of 3's a day and will be ready to play spot minutes at the 4. Troy Williams will hopefully give Ariza a 5-10 minute breather. Hopefully Anderson has been staying in shape. We should be able to handle it, but I feel like the team is falling apart. Good thing we rested some guys against Phoenix. Wish Bev would rest too.
