I was actually shocked at how low Kawhi's 3s have dipped this year. Maybe last year was a fluke???

Did you know Kawhi is now shooting the 2nd worst 3P% in his career for a season.
    • For the season: 36.6% (Yes, he shot 44% last year, and 1/2 of this year)
    • For February and March (23 games), he is shooting 29.2% (taking 5.7 per game)
    • Last 6 games: 6-34 = 17.6%
hopefully, this carries into the playoffs.

As much as we talk about Harden slipping on 3s, he's 35.1% since January. But, of course, Kawhi just had to nail the moving 3, game winner against us. grrrrrrr. Shooting 4-5 for the game.

    Here's the stat I like:
    • Subtracting out last year's amazing 44%, he's a career 36.7% shooter, never hitting 38% in any year. So was last year a fluke

Those career numbers are surprising since I remember the main knock on him coming into the league was his shooting. It was so prevalent, in fact, I was comfortable with the Rockets taking Morris ahead of him.

He's definitely one of the better shooters in the league, but it was kind of surprising how elite he was last season. I'm not sure anymore. If he continues this slump it'll be great. What is his percentage on mid range shots though?

I'm wondering how much of this is due to taking more 3s and eliminating long 2s?

Harden is now at a career low 3pt% but he has pretty much eliminated long 2s and taken more 3s, resulting in a higher efg%

Was actually thinking about this last time we played them, not sure if/what was the reason but yeah, his shooting was absolutely elite last season...maybe without Duncan and with a declining Parker for most of the season he's just taking more contested/bad shots overall?

not afraid of the spurs if harden's wrist is okay. Kawhi is only 25 years old. I've made my point and cited historical precedent before on how rare and special you have to be to carry a team as the man to a championship at 25 years old.

Doesn't seem like Kawhi is good at passing out of double teams either.

That table in my post has Kawhi's eFG% per season -- the last column. Does that help answer your question?

Or last season is some outlier. All other 5 seasons are pretty much identical %s.

The story was last year that "he's improving his 3 every year." Well, maybe that premise is clouding our reasoning.

Maybe we are trying too hard to explain this to last year (as if this is a misstep), vs explaining last year to the other 5 years.

I agree. I can't point to an eaxact reason, but for some reason, I have never been sold on this Spurs team this year. We completely outplayed them in 3 games this year.

We might have outplayed them in game minutes but when it comes to execution down the stretch, they still hold an edge over us.

We tend to make mistakes in those situations. They will probably end up taking care of the ball and will make better decisions.

We will need to blow them away. If the games are close, they will take the series.

I now have a bad feeling that should the two teams meet in the playoffs, Kwahi will be shooting 50% from the three against us for the series. :D

    UPDATE:

0-5 vs OKC. half way through 3rd Q

Kawhi has now missed 17 three pointers in a row...covering 3 games.

He made his 500th career 3ptr at the end of the Knicks game, and is 0-17 since.
