I want a replacement for Obamacare. Maybe now the Dems will be willing to work in a bi-partisan fashion to improve Obamacares
It's great news for America. For all of Trump's faults, his general incompetence is what stands out, to the great benefit of the American people. Going by the numbers, Cheeto's attempt on Tuesday to hard-sell Republican congressman on the AHCA led to the bill LOSING votes. So what potential disaster is up next on the docket? Debt ceiling?
It wasn't a replacement for Obamacare that anyone could support. They need to do a better job and not just pawn off an Obamacare 2.0 bill and expect conservatives to agree with it.
Unlike the Republicans who fully cooperated with the ACA. Oh wait....I forgot that 0 republicans in the house and senate voted for the ACA or even realistically worked to get a better plan.
Yup, 0 Republicans were part of the bill that created this mess and now 0 Democrats want to help clean up the mess. Perhaps now that this bad plan has been killed, Democrats will work with Republicans to come up with something that can fix the mess they made back when they passed Obamacare.
Yep....and the Republicans can put a spin on this and say something like "see...even members of our own party realized we could do a better job and forced us to reevaluate"...
I don't think that's spin really. The Republicans rejected a bad attempt to replace Obamacare with Obamacare 2.0. Replacing something bad with something bad isn't a good thing. So long as it really forces them to reevaluate and they actually come up with something better then this will be a very good thing.
Democrats have been offering suggestions to improve the workings of the bill since 2010 - the GOP wanted it to die, so they refused to work with Democrats. Since Trump's election, Democrats haven't been offered any chance to participate in the process. Even most Republicans weren't - the entire bill was written behind the scenes in a matter of weeks with no input from anyone. Comparatively, Obamacare was written in committees and publicly debated over a period of about 9 months. GOPers were given every chance to participate and influence the bill. Hundreds of amendments were voted on, and I believe several dozen GOP-sponsored amendments were included.
Perhaps spin is the wrong word, but they should be able to use it to their advantage to offset the unrealistic expectation that this could get done in 2 months.
This is simply factually untrue. In fact, it's just the opposite of reality. Health insurance premiums and the cost curve are tangentially related, but they are not remotely the same thing. In the years immediately after Obamacare passed, we had the lowest increase in overall healthcare spending in 60 years in absolute terms and 40 years in relative-to-inflation terms. You really need to stop just making things up. Maybe you have stupid friends and your nonsense works on them, but we know actual facts here. https://www.forbes.com/sites/theapo...-caused-it-will-it-be-sustained/#69fb6f7b49b6
I think it's overplayed how important this was for Trump. Certainly he made "repeal and replace" part of his campaign but his big two issues were jobs (trade, TPP, wall, etc) and ISIS. I think r&r comes in a distant 3rd. However, for many congressional Republicans, this was their big moment. Who knows, maybe there will be another shot.
