This part I agree with. The debate keeps going on fixing our expensive healthcare system but then the policy only impacts health insurance. There is a whole lot of health care industry that is not insurance that is keeping its head down and hoping no one will notice. Big Pharm has a crazy business model where they hope a couple of home runs will cover the costs of a bunch of whiffs -- and pay investors a high risk premium for taking the chance. We have medical boards constricting the inflow of new doctors. We have medical schools loading doctors with large student loans. We have hospitals investing billions in capex and recouping the costs with enormous margins on their patient bills. We still have a lot of doctors operating like small businesses with no economies of scale. But all we can talk about is insurance.

So...when this vote fails, Trump is going to take his ball home. He is just going leave Obamacare as is.
If Republicans would do what is in the BEST interest in the country, they will pass bills to fix the problems. It could be done within a few weeks.

Kudos to the 36+ GOP reps who put their constituents and their country ahead of partisan politics.

Blame the democrats that the Republicans couldn't pass a bill despite the majority.
Blame the democrats that the Republicans couldn't pass a bill that Democrats weren't even asked to offer their opinion on.

You didn't need any Democratic support for this to pass. Police your own.

In fairness though, it's cleaning up the mess the Democrats made. Sure Republicans should be blamed for not having a plan to fix what the Democrats screwed up, but we can't forget the reason we're in this situation.

Just want to point out that the ACA had done SOME to bend the cost curve. I believe healthcare inflation in the United States is at its lowest rate in a long time.

In general I agree though that all the talk (that gets attention anyway) is always about insurance plans and not about breaking the cost curve.

We're in this situation because for 6 years the Republicans refused to offer any attempt to improve ACA because they wanted a chance to win the White House on its back. Instead of trying to make it better they actively undermined it (Rubio killing the risk corridors for example) and then refused to offer up a single bill to improve it.

There were TONS of things that could have been done that would have helped ACA during the 6 years it was law under Obama, things even he would have gotten on board with. Republicans refused to even talk about anything that wasn't spelled R-E-P-E-A-L.

That was the strategy. It worked. They got the white house with both houses. So now what? Sorry, got nothing for you Murica!

    Blame the democrats!

That's not really what the data shows. It shows that as soon as the ACA went into effect the cost started rising at higher rates than it was before it went into effect.

Dems weren't cooperating. They want to keep obamacare. I guess it has something to do with Obama's legacy or something.
