D'Antoni on this subject and resting his back after Bev hit him. :D

"Every case is different," Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said. "We rest Nene for his knees. My thought on holding people out en masse, I'm not really for it. Just think of the kid who travels three hours to see somebody and they don't show up. It's tough. It's complicated and I know every coach is trying to do what is best for his team.

"We relatively young, too. We're 27, 28. Every case is different. I'm not here to judge. We have a back-to-back to Minnesota. It's two degrees up there so I'm thinking about resting on that one just because my back hurt when Pat (Beverley) hit me."

The goal is to win a title.

Resting almost definitely helps win a title.*

If the league doesn't want teams hurting the quality of the entertainment in pursuit of a title, it's on them to make winning a title less physically onerous.

*Perhaps the rare case of rust or chemistry issues makes this untrue, but in general I don't think its too disputed

But what does the quality of the game have to do with money????

To me it's pretty simple more games more tv money, more merchandise money, more sponsor money. The list goes on and on.

82 games has been played for a very long time. These athletes play less minutes have better treatment, travel accommodations, personal chefs and massage therapists. The guys that played even just 15 years ago didn't have this stuff and never complained.

To me it's and excuse from the players. The league is in a very good place. I like watching rockets basketball 3-4 times a week. I too am a season ticket holder and I love going to the games even if it's against a boogie less kings team.

I would hate to see the schedule cut to 65 games. Of course the nost outspoken players that want this happen to be guys on max contract. It won't effect there pockets but ask the guy at the end of the bench if he would rather make 2m or 1.3m so he can get more rest and make the game better. There's only 25 or great players in those league there's 425 other guys that added rest does not benifit at all.

nah, murphy s law is a strong one,
sitting down to prevent injuries may easily backfire in form of injury.
you bench core guys in fourth q, and thats enough.

Though that is a possibility, I disagree. I guess we can't really say for certain since we're not actual professional athletes and don't know the wear and tear that playing even 20 minutes takes on your body. My reason for benching core players has more to do with allowing the rest of the team to get more playing time to get ready to contribute more during the playoffs when teams discover how to beat us (double team Harden).

One image that I'll never forget is seeing Derrick Rose go down after playing meaningless minutes in a playoff game. Chicago lost to the 76ers that year when Chicago was the number 1 seed and you never know how far they could have gotten.

    ok,
but dont you think that benchwarmers benefit more when put among core crew? capela is excellent example.

I wonder if players would insist on playing if they lost a game check? Fine line monitoring day off/rest
vs tweaked ankle or back. Fans at game or in TV land lose when players rest. Show up & sign autographs.

I 100% agree. But in general what I think a team with an established core needs is to give the other guys some PT other than the times when we're blowing teams out or getting blown out. Our method is working, but it relies on a healthy core. You never know what can happen, and when players who are "unprepared" (have not received adequate game time, since there is a HUGE difference between being ready and being game ready) are thrown into the fire, they'll either sink (inevitable and they get blasted on this forum) or swim (rarely often).

Here is another thing . .. .. why is not resting them by giving them practice days off not an option or enough rest.
If you so concerned about their rest . .. cut back on practice time and intensity?

    But no . .. the coach don't want to lose their time . .. . don't want to waste it . . .
but are quite ok wasting the fans and stations time and money
    selfish

MDA is doing that. That said, practice and games are obviously a different level of intensity.

Once the 3 seed is basically locked up, I would like to see coach rest some guys on a staggered basis. Maybe hold a few guys out of the Suns game so that they can get 4 days rest between @GSW & vs. DEN, then some other guys out of that DEN game so they get 4 days between the aforementioned GSW game and DET game. No harm in doing it, the team would still have more than a fighting chance to win and it's unlikely that there would be much to play for at that point in terms of seeding.

For that reason, I'm coming around on the idea of signing Casspi.

Teams should only be allowed to rest players in mass when playing home games.
