Because they voted on it last year as a publicity stunt. It's a lot harder to get behind legislation when it matters and you will be held accountable for it.
What utterly ridiculous BS. It must be sad to live in such a racial hatred your entire life blaming anything and everything on white men. The irony is that makes you are a sad and pathetic racist.
The cold hearted objectivism you exhibit toward your fellow man is baffling coming from such a devout person.
America did not become exceptional, with 70 year old gandpa laying around the house and watching Fox News all day. He need his ass in gear, go get a job and stop being a lazy socialism-hating good-for-nothing.
I'm a Christian, in the pew almost every week. I don't recall Christ preaching objectivist government to spite greedy elders. I guess I don't see the government as this thing to be feared if we truly are the Masters of it embodied by a republic. The system is ours and we've decided as a society, for nearly 100 years, that we won't let our seniors languish in poverty, dying from illnesses that can be treated. We've operated in a way that demonstrates empathy for our fellow citizens and doesn't scold or mock them for their desperation. We've said that if you pay into a public pension system while you work, you'll be taken care of in your old age. How one can be against these ideas and in favor of a hypothetical where "seniors worked longer and saved more," instead of seeing that because of our collective generosity they don't have to do that and can actually enjoy their old age, baffles me. When that mindset is usually expressed in tandem with absolute deference to the richest and most well-off in our society, I'm no longer able to notice generosity in the adherent's politics. Instead I only see callousness.
Sorry the truth hurts. But it is what it is. The history of GOP legislation shows that their policies shift dramatically when the color of the audience affected changes as well. You can either see the truth or you can call me names in anger because deep down inside you know it is the truth.
I have my doubts but I will play along. What you seem to fail to realize is that when everything topples under its own weight that the people most dependent on government will be the worst off including our seniors. The Bible does tell us to give to the poor which I do. It tells us to give of our own heart and that does not mean giving to Caesar what is Caesars. it means giving directly to the poor. I would put my charitable givings as a percentage of my income up against anyone and not feel ashamed. What about you or do just count what you give to Caesar as charitable donations(note: I am not talking about your church donations either if in fact you do actually give to your church). I do wonder if you even actually understand the purpose of helping the poor as proposed by the Bible?
If you were the only example I had of a Christian, it would be quite depressing. Fortunately, I know enough real Christians that I can dismiss your so-called "Christian" ethics for what they are - ignorant, bigoted crap.
Come see me at Church of the Cross in Austin! We're a new Anglican Church, planting ourselves in an underserved part of the city. Would love to sit next to you. Faith isn't a competition, so I will leave your claims about direct giving to the poor and tithing unchallenged. Good on you. I also recognize that we live in a country of 320 million people and simply relying on the generosity of others to solve issues like poverty, healthcare, drug addiction, etc. isn't rational. A rising tide lifts all boats. Trying to prove a negative about what happens when "everything topples under its own weight" isn't an excuse for society to do nothing.
In theory you are right...but the world doesn't work on theories or ideas. The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry... You can easily plan on working till you're 70 but get struck by cancer or some other debilitating disease. It is basic knowledge that the older you get the more likely it is that your body will simply break, and it often doesn't break on time to go with your retirement plans.
You do realize that going to church will never save you and neither will works. We are supposed help others because we are saved by the Grace of God not to be saved ourselves. No amount of any works will ever save you only by accepting the Grace of God will you ever be saved. That being said, how much direct giving to the poor have you done of time and money? I have personally spent thousands of hours and dollars helping poor Hispanic kids. This was not to save myself but help lead them to the Lord Jesus Christ. I took the time I had with them to witness to them and led many of them to Christ. I hope you realize that is the purpose of EVERYTHING preached by Jesus to lead others to him. If we do that by giving to Caesar, we lose the ability to witness to the people we help.
Deckard, I do not think you would actually know a true Christian if you saw one. If you yourself are not a Christian and in fact "washed in the blood of the Lamb" you will forever be clueless. Giving to others will never save you. If you do not realize there is nothing you can do to save yourself, you are forever lost. Giving to others is a chance to witness to others and lead them to Christ because you are already saved. Giving to Caesar to redistribute wealth will never accomplish that goal which is why Christians are supposed to give of themselves. Giving to Caesar what is his is a COMPLETELY separate thing. For your sake, I hope you realize that
Thank you for showing your ignorance on this topic. You have proven 100% you haven't a clue. If you do not realize that the point of helping others is to lead them to Christ you are completely ignorant of the entire situation and have nothing more ot offer to this discussion.
Ah, you have a point but at that point, there should be a "safety net" instead of an entitlement. You do see the difference. A safety net catches those who fall through the cracks and not everyone. Same thing with welfare. It should be hand up not a handout.
