Wasn't Kareem playing a lot of safety towards the end of last season or am I remembering things wrong?
i'd do it. our second rounders eat themselves out of the arena league. we'll replace that that second rounder with some undrafted F.A that was barely getting by eating pollo loco that eventually turns to be a perennial probowler at his position.
He played safety in situations and the intent was for him to play a lot of "safety" when we had JJo, KJo and Bouye healthy. That unfortunately didn't happen. He's just not anything special as a cover corner and the team has tried to get around that by putting him in situations where his strengths can be utilized.
Butler Obi Kareem(part time safety) KJ J-Jo Would be sick to have. We already are a top pass defense but this would take it up a notch I believe. Plus this most likely will be JJo last year. Wonder What we save if we cut him.
They still need the flexibility of having a safety. They want to be able to play around with the coverage depending on the offense they are facing. They only put him in that spot because of what they saw on the opposing offense. It was not a permanent solution. I'm not saying they won't make him permanent; I just don't think variety in their coverage gives us enough reason to assume it will become permanent. They did this while Demps and Moore/Hal were still playing.
Ladarius Webb gives you the veteran safety, that's actually good in coverage by the way, that can twin safety it up in the back and let you make Kareem the box safety or BIG nickle if you need to.
I believe Butler has graded out as one of the top CBs for 2 seasons now versus Bouye's 1. But letting Bouye walk only to give a 2nd and likely a bigger contract for Butler is a little hard to swallow.
I could see him going top 5. I mean, isn't it every season that someone reaches on a QB? Why should this season be any different just because there's not much talent at the QB position. All it takes is one team to convince themselves that Trubisky is the best QB in the class and he could go way too early.
Seems like this post and most of the posts like the one above are really worried about McNair's money.
Comments like this would make sense if we were talking about baseball.....but football has a hard cap so if you foolishly spend money, you handicap the team. It's sad that this is pointed out numerous times a year but we still get the same ridiculous comments saying "It's just McNair's money"
No, we're worried about our ability to re- sign guys like Hopkins while still being able to afford guys like Romo.
