Once considered Top 10 picks, think both Watson and Kizer will easily slide back into the mid to late 1st. Tribusky still goes in the Top 10 IMO.
Health aside, if you can plug the best player in football into your defense, it's not going to make it *worse.* His impact - again, assuming health - will be seismic, just in how much your force the hand of your opponent to alter what they're doing to defend him. It'll be his third year in the system; what would you call him? No, he doesn't improve his hands - but in terms of knowing the offense and putting the balls where it should be, that'll help the receivers tremendously. A great QB makes his WRs better - look at the impact Manning, Brady, Rodgers have had on what are mostly not-great WRs. If your QB is constantly mis-reading a defense, throwing early/late; high/low, forcing passes - all of which I think Oswiler did with alarming consistency last year - your WRs are going to be worse for it.
Yes, it's on BOB, he's coasted off of RAC's defense the whole time he's been here, it's time for him to show that he can put together a halfway competent offense given that's his specialty. As to "getting talent" 1. The team has a ton of talent. 2. Smith keeps getting BOB the guys he wants.....BOB just keeps wanting bad offensive players. (no matter what propaganda is being pushed by BOB's PR team)
I'll be shocked if the Texans are really making a big play for Malcolm Butler, but if they are that would be a HUGE move.
There is literally not a free agent out there, not even two combined, that would cost so much that we couldn't afford to offer Romo the money he'll sign for.
I have no idea if Romo would be great or a disaster. I have no idea if Bob's offense will be the same old predictable safe boring plays, or if it would change with someone he has more faith in. So, who knows? It's like throwing the dice with Romo, and he could be a superstar for us. If he is a bust though, and we go all in again and give up draft picks then it could really hurt us in the future. I really want a QB first round, and if that doesn't pan out do it again next year and the next until we get it right. Maybe O'Brien isn't the one, but honestly, it's all a mystery to me that I hope somebody solves this year.
This is a stupid take. So tired of it. Texans will make money no matter what. They sell every ticket and all of the media money is split among the teams. The idea that they only care about making money and somehow make moves to increase revenue but not winning is just stupid.
Not sure if I would want to give up a 2nd round pick AND a huge contract for Butler. Seems like a high price tag to pay. I'd rather just spend a 3rd on a DB, to be honest. Saves money and a pick. JJo, KJ, and Kareem are a solid trio. Very few teams in the NFL have the luxury of having three guys of that caliber. And I understand that health is an issue, but again, a 3rd round pick in this draft can come in and contribute.
Exactly...it's not like the Texans forgot that they need a RT...problem is that it would be a very stupid move to spend 10 million a year on a vet. You get yourself into cap trouble with unnecessary moves like that. Teams that usually win the FA game are the ones that end up sucking. Jags, Redskins, etc... You don't want to be the team that outbids everyone else...it typically means you're overspending. In some cases that works out, but generally speaking, you're not going to be getting value for your dollar.
There is a new report that the Texans are interested in signing Malcolm Butler and will give up a second rounder to do so. So the Texans let Bouye go, and now possibly would give up a #2...... to sign a similar player to similar money? Let's hope there is more to this than is obvious.
Kareem is likely moving to SS. I don't like giving up the 2nd but Malcolm Butler is going to be much more of a contributor than any rookie DB (even in this class). 1st rd Pick will be a much tougher selection though whether it's Mahomes/Watson or Ramcyzk/Cam/Bolles
Everyone speculates but nothing from the Texans brass says they are moving Kareem to safety. Except I missed something.
It's not for sure that Kareem is going to be a full time safety. Giving up a 2nd is one thing, but paying 12+ million per year for Butler is an added kick to the nuts. I would have preferred to pay Bouye his 13.5 million per year and saved the draft pick. This draft is the deepest its been for DBs in a decade...you cant pass up the opportunity to get a player in the 3rd or 4th, when they would typically be 2nd rounders. For all of Kareem's faults, he's still an average CB in the league, if you want to really be very critical of him...if you want to be fair, he's still an above average CB in the league. What's the rush to replace him? And I know, PFF sucks and all...but if you look at the grades for 2016, Kareem graded out at 78 while a player like Stephon Gilmore graded out at around 73. Basic take away from this is that Kareem isn't a bad CB...and can do the job, despite what most people here have to say about him. The Texans could have one of the top 5 group of CBs in the NFL as it stands...there is no need to waste additional resources to fixing that group, when we have other big needs. Drafting a CB in the mid rounds should be more than enough.
