So, if the Texans are at 1-25 and DeShaun, Mahomes, Bolles, Robinson, Jabrill, and Obio are available; what do you do? Chances are whoever they don't pick won't be there at 2-25.
I'd be fine with Mahomes, Peppers, or Bolles. I'd prefer Mahomes, but would understand Bolles or Peppers.
You take Cam Robinson for sure. He's a perfect fit at RT and he'd be good to start day one. I know my homie has a strong following, but he's not someone who helps the team this season and given that the Texans could legitimately have a chance this season, you can't throw away a first round pick on "maybe one day". Jabrill Peppers is tempting, but the O line is more pressing.
Would the Texans even consider Robinson, with his character issues though? My gut says no. Granted Bolles has some as well, but they're distant and people don't seem as concerned about them.
Texans obviously going OL then DB since they have made no effort at OL in FA, saving money for Romo. Jones injury may hurt DB depth in Rd 2 which had been looking insane.
I don't see him as having real character issues. He was in a vehicle where someone had half a gram of mar1juana and someone else had a gun. I would think Bolles has much more serious character issues despite the talk of him going straight. I mean, sure he's really into the LDS stuff right now, but make the kid a millionaire and have some things go wrong in his life and we'll see if he goes back to his past ways. On top of that, I don't think he's as good of a candidate to start from day one despite being older than most rookies. That said, I'd absolutely take either. You have to start nit picking when trying to decide between two similar prospects and I think Cam edges him out.
Bolles is apparently ready to go now. He could have a Conklin-like impact in season 1. Robinson has higher ceiling but they need a day one starter.
Well one of the knocks on him was strength, but he did well at the combine so you could be right. That said, I don't think I've heard many people suggesting that Cam Robinson wouldn't be a day one RT starter. The questions on him are more about if he can play LT or if he's better at RT.....at least what I've heard.
I pick obi or peppers. If a big IF we pick up TJ Lang with romo. When demps was out our safeties struggled bad.
I just want us to draft a QB like Mahomes first round, because Jerry is gonna hold out on Romo for who knows how long, until someone is willing to trade for what he wants. If he releases Romo, it is still not a sure thing we will get him. Everyone seems to assume we will. Jerry Jones is shrewd and wants to get the good end of the deal, so let's hope we don't pull a Brock just to get him. I don't trust his durability, and would hate to throw draft picks his way for a trade. That would come back to haunt us if he got injured once again. What I do know is that if he stays healthy we will be a team that could be tough to beat. That in itself could keep Jerry hangling the carrot to desperate teams who are nipping at the bit to have an experienced veteran who has the ability to succeed in their offense.
That still won't help us this season.....so are you just throwing in the towel before camp? If we fail to get Romo and Savage ends up being our starting QB, having a project QB on the roster isn't going to help as much as having a competent RT.
It depends how you look at it. Maybe a 2nd round QB will never pan out, or maybe a 2nd round RT ends up being as good as a 1st round. I personally am more prone to take a chance on the QB first, but I know we differ in opinions.
What I'm trying to get at though is that you are effectively saying that you are prioritizing the future over the present. Taking a chance that a QB might one day be a starter caliber player is more important than anything that could help the team THIS season is kind of what that says.
No it aint, but if you get two franchise cornerstones out of one draft you've done well. How well does Smith do in rds 2-4 anyway. See: last yrs draft as an example.
