1. Brock was a terrible quarterback. 2. He and O'Brien clashed. 3. The players had no respect for him, or no confidence in his (lack of) ability
Sounds like the trade isn't official and can still get vetoed by the league if it's interpreted as selling draft picks. Browns should've kicked in a player or something so it's not blatantly obvious that they are the winners in both sides of asset acquisition, players and picks.
I hate it when people say this, though. Sure, OF COURSE they want a top tier QB because they are pretty solid in other areas. But hopefully the goal will be to always be solid in other/all areas. The trade should be viewed through the window of what happens to get the team to be a competitive, Superbowl winning capable team as soon as possible. If Cleveland asked for our 1st and 2nd for the next two drafts, clearly they would have said no, even though you could make the same "wasting the prime of our best players" comment.
Idk, I guess he picked barwin and Reed but I don't altogether consider it a success to bring players up and let them walk when they've spent your time getting good. So credit there. And to the brah, limited is absolutely correct. He's a sure tackler and great run stopper but he has severe LIMITATIONS in covering backs and TEs. Don't you remember teams abusing us with passes out of the backfield? The patriots took McKinney to the woodshed. I didn't mean it to sound like a huge discredit I feel it came off that way but he doesn't show the mind for or even the athleticism to do that. In the box, making tackles he's a force. In space, he's outmatched.
So the Texans outbid Denver once again and get Romo then Osweiler goes back to Denver and wins SB. You just thought the Kubes SB run was agony.
I actually think it's a good trade for both teams. Browns aren't in danger of hitting the cap. They were willing to pay for a 2nd round pick which could turn into a great player. I'd love the Texans to buy a high draft pick if it didn't have any drawbacks other than McNair spending some of his billions of dollars. Props to Rick Smith for getting out of a failed gamble. You roll the dice with any QB and not having to suffer because it didn't work out is pretty great. Romo is a great low risk, high reward player unless they sign him to a long deal. I'm not big in Garropolo. He didn't play enough to make you feel confident in limited stats. I am also wary of any player the Patriots don't want especially when Brady could break down anytime. However, it's not like I study QBs. I'm just not sure how often teams trade great backups. I think you take the highest rated QB when you pick unless you could easily get him with your next lower pick. It doesn't matter breaking down the players. No one knows what college players will do well. It's a crapshoot.
I can't look at this any other way than as a positive. Yes, next year's 2nd is a big price but we get him gone now and whatever move is made means we don't have to worry about any possible controversy. And even if a 2nd is a lot, it's not until 2018. I'll take a year to acquire another one or...even better...not worry about it because we aren't picking until 32nd. Good bye, giraffe. And to my friends who are Browns fans...
Time will tell I suppose. It really comes down to what both teams do from here. If the Texans strike out on Romo and end up going into next season with Savage or Cutler and no other FA improvements then the trade will be a negative for the Texans, if the Browns use the trade as part of gathering assets to give the Patriots then it'll be a negative for them too.
impressive move by rickardo, now who starts? I like Savage but he will come down with the kyle lowry flu by week 6 and the team is 5-1. what a fatboy like bomb. I thought it was going to be a boring day. will turn on talk radio after being in hibernation after the pats game.
Think Seattle and Denver are the most comparable situations the Texans have. With the Seahawks after a couple of mediocre seasons...they tried making a huge FA splash with Matt Flynn. But in the end, Russell Wilson came up out of no where and took the team somewhere. Denver took a huge gamble on a HOF Qb coming off a major neck injury...The Texans have talent on the defense(losing Bouye is tough though)...but they really just need a QB. Romo could help...This could really work. Just wished that Romo was already on the market before the Texans made this trade... edit: Yes...sometimes we have to acknowledge that the Texans can be a good football with a competent QB.
They said we couldn't keep Savage while having Romo and a rookie. Looks like they were wrong. One of my most excited moments as a Texans fan. Bobby, what you got?
I didn't think there was any chance that a team would trade for Osweiler, I guess I should have remembered that the Browns are a thing. If not for this trade, they wouldn't have kept Savage.
