They've been all over the tight ends at the Senior Bowl and Combine. This tight end class is loaded just like the DB class. There will be good ones available all throughout the middle of the draft.
He's a 32-year old journeyman. Not worth a multi-year deal. This is a loaded DB draft class. There will be guys in the 4th and 5th rounds who would go in the 2nd in other years.
Yeah that's an underrated part of finding late round guys that pan out like Griffin and Bouye, you get something when they leave.
Honestly, we are pretty lucky this year.. our only main FA that are or might be leaving are in positions that are EXTREMELY deep in the draft this year. So we can save our money and go after positions of real need like OT and QB and still draft those positions early and replace lost FAs in later rounds. Could be worse.
The Texans have done a decent job the past few years of finding defensive backs and putting together a solid d in general. Also, as long as they have Mercilus, Clowney, and Watt then things will be alright. The offense is what people should be worried about.
Plus, as other people have said, they will get solid comp picks next year for losing guys like Bouye.
