You don't hear from them normally because they don't have a lot of cap space because they've used it to keep their own great players.

However, they've been very active this year.

They did, and they're letting Ryan walk and are reportedly rumored to be dealing Malcolm Butler. So they've dealt two starting CBs for one.

They believe in their scouting, system and coaches.

when you find your words tell them to nfl FOs because that's their policy not mine.

good one but Bouye is nowhere near Arian. Also Arian has several bad luck incidents in a row that led to him being undrafted. prior to that, he was on nfl draft boards.

They sign free agents, they are just smarter about signing guys they know fit than most teams are.

Hogan, Amendola, Terrance Knighton, Chris Long, Shea McLellan, Jabal Sheard, Scott Chandler, Derek Cox, Patrick Chung, Brandon Lafell, Brandon Browner, Darrell Revis, etc. etc.

They sign a lot of guys.

So does everybody else in the league and beyond. Doesnt mean any team can duplicate what or how they do things.

No, I know; but they're rarely out front making huge deals with name free agents that signal BREAKING NEWS graphics at ESPN.

They're patient and smart and don't get caught up in all the urgent hype bullshit that drowns so many teams and fans.

that's not my take, that's typical NFL FO policy.

since you brought up suck, cf.net is what sucks now honestly. this place has become toxic.

Last 3 years: Stephon Gillmore (2017), Dwayne Allen (trade, 2017), Martellus Bennett (trade 2016), Shea McLlelan (2016), Chris Long (2016) Chris Hogan (2016), Terrance Knighton (2016). 2015 nothing notable. Year before though had Revis, Lafell, Chung, Browner and Will Smith all in one offseason.

Free agents are always paid a lot. Paying them next year is not going to be any different than paying them this year. It's not like everyone is going to be suddenly cheaper next offseason. If they are better players, you're going to have to pay them more, and then you'll just say "oh these are too expensive, let's wait until next year" again.

With Demps and Bouye both gone, it is the classic time for Smith to over-react and over pay a mediocre free agent in the secondary too much.

Logan Ryan is the likely target to over pay.

If the Texans had Belichick and Brady and could just plug and play other players and keep winning Superbowls, things would probably look very different. But they don't have that luxury. They have one of the worst players at the most critical position in the game, so they have to find ways to improve, and FA is one of those options.

    This.

If the Texans go into next year with Osweiler as their starting QB, they are wasting everyone's time.

Patriots make more of the Joseph and D. Manning type signings instead of the asomawaha (sp?). Also stay away from the Reed/Green signings.

My larger point is that I don't think all this fan hysteria and outage is warranted. There is no "right" way to attack free agency, and often, the teams will see spending outrageously in its first few days - and generating the most headlines - are often the following season's more disappointing.

The Texans have a lot of good-to-great core pieces and if they can in any way upgrade their QB play, should be a prime contender in the AFC South again.

I think people just don't realize what the Patriots do in free agency because they are so good you don't realize when they miss.

Terrance Knighton was a washed up guy similar to Ed Reed, coming in with a rep as a good defender that did nothing for them and got cut.

Revis was "best in the game" and got a MASSIVE deal, the likes of which the Texans have never done (top of the market free agent) except for Brock (lol).

They make a lot of moves. But, just like the draft record, people assume it's all good or smart because they just keep winning.
