I'm not counting on them realizing what they did to themselves. Fox, conservative/GOP media, Trump, et al will just blame Obama/Democrats/non-whites and that crowd will likely eat it up just as they have for decades. I hope these people open their eyes but GOP leadership have no evidence to make them concerned enough of the white poors and middle class are gonna wise up to weaken the party.

The GOP plan is just a further cash grab to keep the political economy woefully skewed toward the monied and the powerful.

We are going to deserve everything good and bad the next two-four years, let's hope it will not be too bad. This is where we are as a nation at this point, elections have consequences.

The Democrats tried that during the election and... well, it failed spectacularly.

What Democrats are going to have to do is get out of their bubble and penetrate the GOP bubble - go on Fox News and make your case directly to the GOP base. Those people will not otherwise get any information beyond "It's Obama's fault" and to think otherwise would kill any 2018 and/or 2020 momentum.

    if im not mistaken,

ObamaCare is patterned after RomneyCare, which was implemented in Mass. based on the recommendation by the conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation, decades ago.

O had implemented Conservatives' proposed solution to health care; the Republican-controlled Congress did not want to see a Democratic POTUS succeed, even if it means killing the Conservative solution.

Now, to be fair, Obama said this in 2014:

The president said the man should "prioritize health care" and cut spending on things like cable, cell phone, and other things to afford insurance.

"I guess what I would say, if you looked at that person's budget, and you looked at their cable bill, their cell phone bill, other things that they're spending on, it may turn out that it's just they haven't prioritized health care because right now everybody is healthy."

That is covering all expenses, not just a cell phone which many people actually need.

However, this is in the same boat- so, there, Obama said something foolish as well. Because many people DO try to prioritize healthcare.

What Obama and Chaffetz said are both dumb. DOES NOT EXCUSE CHAFFETZ, CONSERVS!

Not to get too deep here, but I'd go further and say that Education, critical thinking, and information in society has a massive affect in consequences.

You can hold you flag tighter than anyone else, and say you love it more than anyone else, but its really having the facts & knowing what the facts mean that drives people to make good decisions for the country & society as a whole. It really begs the question.. who is more patriotic.... someone who is just more emotional about their political decision & beliefs and acts without reason, or someone who removes that sort of blind Patriotism & uses critical thinking to make practical decisions only?

As far as Healthcare goes.... I think we are seeing firsthand politicians using the emotions of their electorate and totally taking advantage of that for political & Tribal gain. We all know the logical critical thinking approach is to not just pull a stunt with an Obamacare Lite that screws over the sick & poor & gives a massive tax break to the wealthy. That's not solving any situation... that's called "Pulling a Fast One".

This whole exercise of an election in 2016 was a case against our society making decisions based on feelings & tribal knowledge rather than critical mass thinking & rational belief systems. From an evolution perspective, I think most would say we've taken a major step back. Its not just the US by the way. Its a phenomenon spreading through Europe as well. All we have left is hope I guess. Because relying on the rational, critical thinking part of your brain for this WH is going to give you alot of sleepless nights.

Gee, is this not the republican view of people less fortunate... I guess in the past the republican would have said the poor were buying basketball shoes or Cadillacs instead of health insurance...

Chaffetz walks back remarks on low-income Americans choosing health care over iPhones

Eh, most Trump supporters will be cool with it just because it's not called Obamacare anymore.

Of course. But, you know how this will get spun: See, Obama was the same!!! Um, no, not exactly, but let's not let nuanced thinking get in the way.

    Some comments:

The folks who are waking up to the fact that they helped elect a lunatic for President, and a dysfunctional Republican Congress made up largely of pawns of the super wealthy, along with the alleged "super wealthy" Mr. Trump? Those folks?

The folks who played a key part in giving us this unfolding mess, by either voting for these so-called Republicans because they were lied to, voting for a 3rd party, or simply not voting at all, which amounts to electing the current majority government? Those folks?

The folks who have been immersed in phony "news" sources on the web like Breitbart "News?" Believing any absurd thing they put out there? Passing along the deliberate lies, many of them concocted by the Russians and working far better than their wildest dreams? Lies from sources of fake news that are intended to weaken our country? Those folks?

They need to wake up and smell the coffee. The country is in danger.

He does have a point about "personal responsibility". Healthcare costs aren't rising just because of evil companies.

The Obamacare-lite garbage the Republicans are peddling is crap. It will fail just like Obamacare. You would think they would have learned their lesson.

    That's kind of bullshit.

We didn't vote for Trump, we voted for Hillary by 3 million votes.

We didn't condone Russian hacking to install a buffoon.

We didn't line up behind a racist xenophobe who makes naked appeals to white supremacists.

Some people did, and thanks to the slavery protecting institution that is the electoral college, we are in this mess.

I can't really think of anybody who is harmed by Trump who deserves it however, because by definition he preys on the weak.

The only people who arguably do are the majority of those people (whites) who benefit fromsafety net programs like Obama care and Medicaid/Medicare yet still voted for Trump anyway. But really even then it's hard to say they "deserve" to die for it.

LOL, they're definitely not rising because of iPhones either.

An iPhone costs 600 bucks and lasts for 2 years. That probably doesn't even cover a month of health insurance for a family of 4.

It show how completely out of touch morons (and good God he is awful) like Chaffetz. They literally have no idea how people live or how much things cost.

I havent even bothered to look it up but Obama was pretty *clearly* referring to younger people who hadn't signed up in 2014 when the individual mandate first kicked in order to get insured and is trying to recruit uninsured to sign up. This is a recruiting pitch for health insurance.

That is a **** ton different than telling tens of milllions of people who get it now to just not order a new iPhone and they're good when you kill the ACA.
