If you read a post or two before my post, you will understand the context: Trump inherited a market just under 20,000. Compare that to Obama, who inherited a market under 8,000. Since trump was the one touting 21,000, its a fair metric to compare the market that Obama inherited. Make sense now?
Love our healthcare system. My ex has psoriatic arthritis and she just got insurance. When she was uninsured she could get her cimzia for $150. Now she has insurance and it's $1000. Amazing....
Apparently the republican health care replacement plan is under lock and key. Rand Paul is pissed, and the Democrats are poking fun with a "scavenger hunt" in search of the plan: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/democrats-scavenger-hunt-gop-obamacare-bill/
It "costs" $22000 without insurance and without qualifying for the low income deal they have. I guess she got things worked out after yelling at a couple people at Scott and White. She told me over text that she got a card for cimzia and it's only $50 now.
Paul Ryan is a clown, and this is his clown show. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...secret-obamacare-bill/?utm_term=.fe56bacb618b
republicans announce their plan... and surprise, won't cover everyone that was covered by ACA. Focuses on tax credits, based on age not income. http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/322609-gop-releases-bill-to-repeal-and-replace-obamacare https://www.washingtonpost.com/powe...22680e18d10_story.html?utm_term=.bf8ccf691272
Well, it's better to not cover as many people and not collapse in a few years while doing nothing to stop or even slow the ridiculous costs of health care. Either way, I still think it's a better idea to make Obamacare take away everyone's Obamacare (due to being a really really really really stupid and short sighted piece of legislation from the start) rather than having the Republicans step in and end it before it collapses on itself. I mean, sure that would cause a lot more pain for the people, but I think the people absolutely deserve to have Obamacare collapse on them for supporting it in the first place. They need to learn the lesson so this kind of thing stops happening.
Obamacare is going to have a hard time being repealed. If 10 million people lose coverage think about their family and friends. That is a lot of voters.
Its pretty funny that the part of the ACA that Republicans are having the hardest time with is the socialist government health insurance program (Medicaid). Also this bill stupidly attacks the one constituency that Republicans can't afford to anger: senior citizens. Seniors lose the cost controls on premiums built into the ACA and the age based tax credit doesn't come close to offsetting that. AARP has already come out against the Republican plan. Paul Ryan basically shot the Republicans in the foot in 2012 with his stupid budget that proposed dismantling Medicare and know he managed to do the same thing again. Republicans cant win if they attack the elderly.
If what I have read of the GOP plan proves to be true (we still need to see the "final" version), Democrats are going to be in high cotton in 2018. It's going to be a disaster for the Republican Party at the polls. I can't believe they are being this stupid. OK, yes, I can believe it, but it's still astonishing. They are cutting their own throats. A lot of Trump's voters are going to freak out, and a lot of independents, Democrats, and moderate Republicans that couldn't be bothered to vote last November are going to come out and vote, and not for the GOP, in my opinion.
it was released yesterday https://energycommerce.house.gov/ne...licans-release-legislation-repeal-and-replace
Interesting to see how public attraction to ACA has grown. It will be more interesting to see how well the republican plan works, especially inlight of growing approval of most of the key parts of ACA. 87% support maintaining coverage for pre-existing conditions 61% oppose curbing Medicaid expansion under ACA 50% oppose shifting from income to age based (only 46% support) 50% oppose removing the mandate (48% support removing) 46% support ACA overall, 49% oppose ACA 59% support repealing only parts of ACA (up from 55%) 53% dissaprove of Trump's handling of heath care (43% approve). http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/07/politics/health-care-replacement-poll/
so they are going to allow preexisting conditions but remove the individual mandate? I wonder what insurance companies think about this.
"Continuous coverage — 30 percent penalty if people don't keep themselves insured" This bullet point caught my eye. On what planet is this a conservative idea? It's essentially forcing private companies to charge certain groups of people higher amounts for premiums, seems to me like that's the exact opposite of conservatism. And it just gives people incentive to wait to purchase coverage until they actually need it since they'll still have to be covered if they have pre-existing conditions and why pay higher premiums until you absolutely have to? This plan is a steaming pile and a few Senate Republicans have already come out against it, it's DOA as it stands currently.
