His own spokespeople have said that it might not be true and that there is no evidence of it beyond a media report.
#notatrumpsupporter #didn'tvotefortrump This will be the craziest part of Trump's presidency on THIS forum; people who say they didn't support him/vote for him defending him at every turn and swallowing everything he puts out there. They did this on Russia as well, swearing there was nothing to show Russia was involved in the hacks, attacking the intelligence community etc. Then when Trump himself admitted it was Russia, they all changed the subject.
You'll see it again on this probably. When it comes out that either Obama had nothing to do with any wiretapping of Trump, that the wiretapping never happened OR that it happened because a judge issued a warrant based on probable cause, the issue will be completely dropped when right now it is the biggest scandal in the world to people like Hannity. I mean, lol, Hannity had Assange on his show for a puff piece interview and then proceeded to talk about how he had much more credibility than anyone in the intelligence community and no reason to lie. A few weeks later Trump admitted the intelligence community was telling the truth. Nothing from Hannity.
If you read the full article, it reports that the Russian contacts were under surveillance. This does not support Trump's claim. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/19/us/politics/trump-russia-associates-investigation.html
no, Trump Tower was under surveillance under the pretense of monitoring the Russians ("sure, we tapped the Trump campaign, but they weren't the target so it's all good, and sorry if everything we gather leaks out") they couldn't find any evidence to justify a criminal investigation, so they changed it to an "intelligence probe", so they could gather intel with an easier to get FISA warrant then they spread that information all over the government and it (surprise!) leaked like a sieve oddly, no coordination with the Russians has ever been found, despite this prolonged wiretapping
Where is the evidence that Trump Tower was surveilled? Where is the evidence that the surveillance was undertaken not for security reasons but for political purposes? Where is the evidence that the surveillance was initiated or authorized by Obama? You can keep pointing to reports that surveillance was done, but this has not been denied and it doesn't address the above questions.
Don't forget this one. Why hasn't Trump declassified the government records of the surveillance to prove his tweets?
I'm trying to get straight in my mind what it looks like might have actually happened. Of course, this is all terribly speculative and underinformed, since our civil servants won't trust us with information. * For reasons unknown, Trump opens a relationship with Putin, using surrogates like Manafort as a go-between. May be a tit-for-tat in which Trump agrees to engage in pro-Russian policies if Putin helps him become president. * Either stemming from an explicit deal with Trump or simply because he knows Trump to be more favorable than the alternative, Russia hacks the DNC and engages in other aspects of a propaganda campaign to impact the US election, which works out great for them and for Trump. * Manafort's connections to Russia are reported by the press and Trump drops him like a bad habit. Flynn takes over the Russia relationship. * Computer scientists investigating whether the RNC was hacked instead find internet communications between Trump's campaign and Russian banks. When they raise a flag, the communications stop. * Picking up on this lead (and the bazillion other things that point to a connection between Trump and Putin), federal counterintelligence ask the FISA court for a warrant. Maybe phone tapping is involved, but there also seems to be some indication they want to know about these internet communications with Russian banks. Trump seems to say they didn't find anything, so it may have been after the communications all stopped. Or maybe there was nothing nefarious after all. Or maybe something was found but they're still building their case. Who knows. * However, Flynn is picked up on phone conversations with the Russian ambassador so, like Manafort, he has to be dropped to protect Trump. * Trump, perhaps concerned that the arc of this story plays badly for him (but I really don't know what goes on his head), tries to turn the focus of the Russian story from being about how he has consorted with the Russians toward being a story of how he was being persecuted and perhaps framed by the Obama Administration and Obama himself. A lot is made of Obama loyalists still in government agencies, leaking news stories and trying to sabotage Trump for political reasons. Perhaps the precursor to a more thorough de-Obamafication of the agencies and a justification for firing Comey and other autonomous agency leaders.
All very well put. Although the firing of Comey.......I don't think he can be fired, short of a writ from God, and it would be an interesting maneuver if Trump tried it, given how Giuliani likely called in a favor with Comey (or simply manipulated him) two weeks before the election (go see the FOX News video of Giuliani cackling about another trick up their sleeves, "You'll see", etc).
This is why Trump makes these claims. Because fools automatically believe it. "I have people in Hawaii investigating this, and you would not believe what they are finding." - Donald Trump "SEE?! I TOLD YOU!!!!!" - Trumpanzee
