Look OKC have no support cast. It's all Westbrook!! It's amazing he averages 10 APG with that roster

If by passive you mean getting others involved and passing up on contested garbage shots to get a better/great shot them I am proud of James for doing that. He has made the game fun for teammates by getting others going. Eric Gordon is getting record amount of shots for his career here. Bev, Anderson, Capella and Lou are getting ton of shots as well. They all play hard because of it. Once others get going, the team plays harder on both ends and the results equate to wining ball.

Not sure if I am rooting for this or not but Westbrook finished with only 5 assists today making him only 3 assists on the season over the 10.0 mark.

If he averages only 9.75 a/gm the remaining 19 games (maybe 18 since he just picked up his 16th Tech), then no triple dub for Westbrook.

I have a feeling that if he needed 15-20 assists by the last game of the season that he would be tossing it around all game long to make up that mark though.

If Harden outplays Kawhi, the media will just bring up LeBron.. its a never ending cycle

this is the same media that left Harden off all of the all-nba teams while doing something that only 4 players in history have done.

They are looking for anybody to replace harden at the top.. ANYBODY

bbref has harden with over a 40% chance to win mvp based on advanced stats and historical voting, but that means nothing to the media, Harden had over 63% by bbref in 2015 when he was robbed by curry. But hey at least the players voted him mvp right

the media does not like harden, lets stop making excuses for what harden has to do, if westbrook had the same stats and had the same record as Harden( he would have locked up the award hands down).. Harden is a great player, before the season people and the media, stephen a smith, marc stein called mike dantoni a horrible fit for harden, they called harden selfish for not meshing with dwight. The media does not like being told no

I hope Harden gets it. He deserves it, the same as he did 2 seasons ago.
It's unfortunate that it's the media that votes on it.
Early in the season, a lot of people in the media were saying that the MVP needs to come from 1 of the top 3 teams in East or West.
But over the past week, many in the media when asked to choose their MVP, the voting is split between Harden and Westbrook with many dismissing the top 3 now and saying how they can't overlook Westbrooks stats.
I get the feeling even if Westbrook finishes just short of the triple double, the media will point to the lack of support Westbrook has had and award it to him. Which is the reverse of Harden 2 seasons ago and the reason why he didn't get it then.
    Hope I'm wrong.

Here is the weird part of the MVP voting.

In 1981-82 Moses Malone won it for the Rockets scoring 31.1 ppg, 14.7 rpg and only 46 wins (last seed in the playoffs 6th). This was also the second time he won. He beat out Gervin who led the league in scoring at 32.3 ppg and 48 wins (Winning the divison and #2 seed). Also beat out Magic Johnson whose Lakers led the conference with 57 wins (#1 seed) and he had a near triple-double season 18.6 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 9.5 apg.

In 2005-06 Steve Nash won it that year scoring only 18.8 ppg, 10.5 apg and the #2 seed in the playoffs with 54 wins. This was also the second time he won. He beat out Kobe who led the league in scoring at 35.4 ppg and 47 wins. Also beat out Billips from Detroit who had 18.5 ppg, 8.6 apg with 64 wins (#1 seed).

How does Moses Malone beat out Gervin and Magic Johnson in 81/82 but then Nash beats out Kobe and Billips in 05/06.

I really don't like that the media gets to decide who the MVP is. Can't the NBA change it to Coaches or something that vote?

Moses wouldn't have won the MVP if today's standards had been applied. The unofficial criteria has evolved over the past 30 years.

Kobe didn't win because his team wasn't one of the top teams. Billups didn't win because he wasn't the clear-cut best player on his team. In fact, wasn't 2006 the year that 4 Pistons went to the all-star game?

Also, Steve Nash got bonus points b/c Stoudemire missed the entire season.

Harden needs to come up big tonight.

We get to see our offense(with Lou number one) against the number one defense.

just googled "nba mvp race" looked at about 5 or 6 different rankings/sites...every single one of them has Harden #1. I think barring some catastrophic end to the season, he's got it locked up. Russell is also down to exactly 10.0 assists...I think it will be hard for him to keep it above 10. If he falls below, he definitely has no chance.

Will be interesting to see the player's choice for the MVP this year, i feel like it will be between James (again) and maybe Kawhi, we'll see but i don't think the players are going to vote for Westbrook.

Because winning matters. When your team is 7th seed you should not be MVP.

Look how silly the argument sounds for Westbrook though. If he averages 9 APG then suddenly he's not the MVP.

It does feel like the media has it out for Harden.

ESPN is starting to ride Kawhi now that it looks OKC is locked in at the 7th seed.

    Harden-29ppg 11 apg 8 rpg Points a game created- 56ppg(47% of Harden's assist are 3 point makes)
    Kawahi-26ppg 3 apg 6rpg Points a game created- 33 ppg(25% of Kawahi's assist are 3 point makes)

I don't understand the pundits. At the end of the night, Kawahi may save 5-7 points a game over Harden in regards to defense, but Harden is so astronomically better overall offensively that it covers up the defense.

    Not even close.

I copy and pasted this from the other thread I posted in.

Rockets just have to keep playing well. It is James award to lose. This stat should really be the nail in the coffin towards Kawahi's chances.

I can't speak to Nash, but big Mo's stats speak for themselves. On top of that, he led the Rockets all the way to the Championship the year before (beating Magic/Lakers in the 1st rd). Took the Celtics to six games in the finals. That was fresh in the voters minds, and Mo was definitely the MVP the following season.
