Most years I wouldn't be, but the defense is so good, and the rest of the offense is good enough that Romo just might get us over the hump and into the Super Bowl. We can go into building phase when the team, overall, proves to suck. The window to build is always open. The JJ Watt, Hopkins, #1 defense window is only open rarely.
Don't get me wrong, I think either has more potential to do better than Brock did last year. I hope Brock becomes a phenomenal QB by next season, but am a little more realistic in my expectations after what I saw last season. I am just not excited about those guys because I have a feeling if we pick up either then we won't draft a QB in our first pick. I am just tired of 15 years of QB draft picks who never became anything better than mediocre. I want nothing more than to finally get lucky and get that one who makes you scream with excitement, because he is so good. I want that quarterback people fear even when they are ahead with a minute left, because they know he is capable of airing it down the field with accuracy and coming back and winning the game. That being said, I am fine getting someone like Cutler to take over until the "STAR" is ready to shine.
I think people are just so desperate that they'll convince themselves that just about anything is the right decision.....much like those who might convince themselves that literally ANY QB from this class could be the guy this upcoming season.
No Bobby, I just hope that our 16th draft is when we finally get better and luckier with our pick of QB. I'll take a chance on a gunslinger.
That phrase speaks volumes... because it is essentially that when it comes to landing a franchise QB (via whatever method) that didn't have the expected credentials to be one I also think those advocating to "stand the course" are so desperate to avoid taking risks, that they'll convince themselves that Brock is good enough (or can somehow return to his just above mediocre Denver version... which was over 16 games ago), when its painfully obvious that he just doesn't have the smarts, mechanics, accuracy, arm strength, or ability to protect the football that is requisite for any winning starting QB in the NFL.
Well that's fine, you can hope to get "lucky" all you like, but hoping for luck isn't really a plan. They hoped for luck when they brought in Osweiler....the vast majority of the time when hoping for luck while making a move like that, well that's what you get. I know a portion of the fanbase wants the team to do something irresponsible and swing for the fences(again) and just hope everything works out this time around, but I just think that kind of thinking will lead to things getting worse rather than better. We'll have to see what happens.
I am not saying draft anyone and hope we get lucky, but I think Pat Mahomes has something exciting about him.
You are taking this way out of proportion. First of all, Brock was never that exciting in Denver, and they went all in on him with the money. That was going all in and taking a chance. All I am talking about is picking a QB like Pat Mahomes first pick instead of a lineman. That's not irresponsible and swinging for the fences.
That's fine.... just as long as they acquire somebody else to lead this team for the next 1-2 years while whatever QB they're drafting gets ready (and while the defense is still in a win-now, elite mode). Going into next season with Brock/Savage/Rookie would basically be a wasted year.
Well, it kind of is. You are taking a QB that won't play this season instead of first addressing the biggest hole on the team that could actually be addressed in the first round. If they go that route, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt like I do most moves, but I won't really be expecting amazing things as a result....if they get lucky and my homie ends up being worth a damn then great, it'll be fun to see when he finally plays, but it won't help anything this season.
If you can't fix the QB. Fix the other parts of the team. Get you another RB that will make LBs pee in their panties. Get elite players down the O Line. Go ahead and get you a better TE as well. Shore up the middle of the field on defense. Keep the secondary tough. Make the team so good that it makes who is under center better.
You can find starting RT's in rds other than rd, 1. Look at the Pats/Falcons/Dallas/Steelers etc... teams with grea OL's, how many of their RT's were drafted in the 1st rd? None.
Please draft defense first round if you don't feel a decent Qb is there to groom. I would love Peppers to stick as our Hybrid LB on passing situations.
Just imagine the defense if you stop McKinney from having to cover or chase RB's in passing downs. Patriots exposed him for the win. Texan's could have won that game with Brock freaking Osweiler had we a better cover LB.
Yep! Truth. And unfortunately Cushing wasn't much better. They could also use another OLB so they can keep Clowney doing what he does best. That defensive front would be putting QBs on the ground on every passing down.
