What most of us overlooked is the fact that for veteran/bottom-of-the-roster player one probably shouldn't care much about average stats / overall fit, but potential one-off sparks that can lift the team at desperate times. Think of Prigioni during that Clippers game. That's the value of a gritty old man like Scola.

Do it. He can rebound with having the worse vertical anyone his size and he can show Ryan how to actually pump fake.

I would vote for a 10 day contract. He would be great in our locker room, and maybe 8 - 10 minutes a game at the right time. Always ready to do the right thing for the Rox, kinda like Chuck Hayes or Carl Landry. And he has cool hair.:)

He shot over 40% from 3-pt range last year, making 65/161. I did not know that.

Maybe not a perfect fit as far as need but talent is talent. If he wants to be here and you can't get a defensive big you sign him. He won't get a lot of minutes but he'll be a great insurance policy.

Ha. Came in to say what if Spurs get him. Bbs will explode with "Pops and SAS are smarter than us, why couldn't we get Scola." Didn't quite happen like that with TMac signing last week once with Spurs, but I recall those worried Pops would get the most out of him.

SAS has David Lee for that role. Doubt they get Scola.

Would be funny to see Pelicans sign him, then immediately start getting some post action that eludes DMo at the moment.

They definitely bring the same sort of elite raw athleticism and ability to run the floor and catch the alley oop! Wait, how are we comparing these two again?

Is Scola even sturdy any more?

I'm not expecting the Rockets to get any major talent to put them over the hump but crafty veterans are always good to have.

You look at the Rockets needs and Scola doesn't necessarily fit.

-They need another Dekker type of player but one that can defend from the 3. That's not Scola.
-They would like to have another shot blocking rim protector mainly for situational defenses. Bogut was that guy, but he's gone to CLE. Scola is not that.

However Scola is as a big man about as flexible as you can get to fill in different roles even if he's not a fit for a particular role, and people forget here that Scola has stretched out his game to the 3 point line. He can fill in if needed for either a small ball 5, or as a 4 in this offense. Good solid depth, but as a pure signing he's not going to get a ton of PT.

But as a locker room presence I LOVE LOVE LOVE the signing going into the postseason time where he just adds so much to the team from a personality and hard working presence. He will challenge guys like Ryan Anderson, Harrell, and Sam Dekker for PT which will elevate everyones performance. I love the signing IF the Rockets can't get someone better for the roles they need to fill.

Haha. I should have clarified. They are both offense first players that are weaker in rebounding and defense. Granted they are different offense first players. And even in their differences, Montrezl is a better fit for this team.

Basically, the only thing Scola brings is veteran leadership.
