So again, are you trying to argue against the segregation of the sexes? I mean.....that's the case you are making here by comparing it to the segregation of the races....

If you accept the segregation of the sexes, then you accept that there are facilities that are intended for one sex that members of the opposite sex should not use.....no matter how they are dressed or if they mutilated their genitals. The specifics of the rules regarding the segregation of the sexes should be left up to the organizations and businesses to decide and no legislation should be passed one way or the other.....it's just not really a problem to begin with.

If the tranny is a real tranny then no one will care if he uses the female facilities, if it's merely a cross dresser pretending to be a tranny, they might unless it's a place that doesn't care about that kind of thing. Either way, it's not something that requires legislation. It's something that will work itself out.

If a business or organization makes rules saying that "men" means the male sex and "female" means the female sex as opposed to it referring to gender then that's a completely fair and valid policy. If a business or organization makes rules saying that "men" is merely talking about gender and that "female" only refers to gender, then that's also a completely fair and valid policy.

I just want to know why the administration wants to leave this to the states and does the total opposite with mar1juana laws.

Yeah sure, having men's and women's restrooms is the same thing as Jim Crow. Go with that.

I don't question the sincerity of their delusions, just the insistence that we all play along.

Denying a transgendered young women the right to use the women's bathroom is no different than denying an African American man the right to use the men's bathroom.

Simply make a law that all bathrooms have to be unisex . . .. .
    Controversy over. . .

Stem cells... fetal tissue.... civil rights for blacks, woman's rights... gay rights...now transgender rights.

The Republican Party digs in their heels... screams and kicks, ultimately all the old people that were their supporters die... and the Republican Party quietly tries to move on to the next boogeyman.

Those with AIDS deserve it... that one is another that is going away, or has. Stem cells, well we are now behind Germany and other nations ONLY because of politics on technology of stem cell research. They are beginning to save and enrich people's lives... so not much is said from Repiblicans.

Democrats have their own problems, many of them... but little is as predictable as Republicans trying to tell other people how to live their lives and wanting to segregate groups of people just because they can.

Not really. There would be an even bigger controversy.

Let's just divide all restrooms into some for #1 and some for #2. And if you don't know which you need, god bless you.

You're wrongly equating race with sex.

Sex distinctions are made in many areas of life. Sports is the obvious one. Bathrooms are another.

you have been playing along the whole time and there has never been a problem.

i have an even better idea...we leave things as they are and move on! there are already laws against assaulting people and against engaging in lewd behavior in bathrooms - which brings me back to what i keep saying which is that if it is really about bathroom safety than we need to ban republican politicians and people like donald trump.

This is truly an awesome idea! If we could all despise #2 users, it would satisfy everyone. I feel I deserve to be discriminated against if I do #2 at the airport! Discriminating against #2 Bathroom is a great deep-psychological democratic idea that will solve a lot of problems. Everyone will accept it and enjoy it.

No one has a right to use facilities intended for the opposite sex, even if you assume their gender. If they allow you to, great, if not, tough. It's in no way similar to denying a man of any race from using the facilities intended for the male sex. It's just a false equivalency. A black man is still a man so he has a right to use facilities for men, a black man who is a tranny does not have a right to use women's facilities.....but it's cool of people when they play along with his delusion that he's a woman and let him use them anyway.

Places that want to allow for that kind of thing should allow for it and places that don't want to shouldn't have to.

If a person was a white Irish man but they decided that they felt like they were really a black man despite what their family tree says, should they have the right to apply and be granted programs set aside for minorities such as scholarships? It's the same kind of delusion, should people have to play along? Is it his civil right to be treated as if he really is how he sees himself?

At what point does the facts matter more than a person's feelings?

I don't need to equate them. But the arguments you're using were used to discriminate on the basis of race not too long ago. That should, at the very least, set off some alarm bells in your head.

As you pointed out, if everyone is OK with it then its not an issue. Almost everyone is fine with segregation for cisgendered males and females when it comes to bathrooms, which is a large percentage of the population. For those who don't fall neatly into those categories, there is disagreement.

The segregation is of sexes and has nothing at all to do with gender. A man of any gender is still a man, a woman of any gender is still a woman.

Segregation of the sexes is fully accepted by society, and unless you are suggesting ending that segregation and setting up only unisex facilities, then there's no comparison whatsoever.

Evidently it is not. Segregation of the sexes is fully accepted by society only with regards to men and women who are not transgendered. It is not at all fully accepted that a transgendered woman (i.e. born-male, identifies as female) should use a male bathroom along with cisgendered men even if she feels extremely uncomfortable and unsafe doing so. You may think that's OK. But many of us do not.

The first club I went to in Houston back in the 80s was Numbers. They had a unisex bathroom back then. It was cool.

My nephew started going there in the late '80's and the club came up at Christmas during a conversation about gender and related issues. He said that Numbers was a really cool place where, broadly speaking, all sexual orientations mingled and got along famously.

I don't think you understand the issue here. Segregation of the sexes is fully accepted when it comes to facility use (be it restrooms, changing areas, or locker rooms). A "transgendered woman" is of the male sex even if he has adopted the female gender, a human simply cannot change their sex. While gender is something that is merely a sociological construct that can be fluid, sex is a biological fact.

As to if the tranny should use the women's facilities or the men's facilities, it depends on several factors such as the policy of the organization or company that owns or runs the facilities, the level to which they have committed to the female gender, and how others around them respond to it. The vast majority of the time I think common sense would win out and there wouldn't be a problem....and that's on top of the fact that legit trannies are a minuscule portion of the population to begin with. It's just really not a problem, literally the only reason why we're spending so much time talking about it is because the issue that led to such a high percentage of funding for gay rights groups dropped off the table once a conservative SCOTUS legalized gay marriage. Their donations dropped off the face of the planet after that and this was the best they could do to try and replace that legitimate civil rights issue so that they could have a reason for asking for money. Their jobs were on the line, so they had to invent a civil rights issue.

Like I've said since the beginning, this simply isn't something that should be legislated one way or the other.
