As much as I disagree with Jopat, I do think Boban can play and play exceptionally well. I would do that trade in a heartbeat, except would want to keep KJ now that Brewer is gone. Perhaps they would take Kyle or Brown instead?

Eh, even if they would, it won't work salary wise, for Boban we are forced to trade Kj and Ennis. Kyle (which may be pretty interesting in Stan eyes actually) salary is way too low...and Brown cannot be traded.

I'm no insider but a friend of mine is in PR for the Miami Dolphins and he knows people (Trust me... I know this is a stretch) who say Boston will end up with Carmelo after striking out on Butler. Says PG was never really possible.

One ramification of the Lou Williams trade is we are now approximately $680k under the salary cap. If we could find a taker for Brown (send them cash to take him) then we could sign Gary Payton to a 4 year/$4 million deal (maybe first two years guaranteed), and lock him up as Bev's future replacement either next year or the year after. That would be a smart move.

Good observation. Also just looked at GPII stats down in D League...he's hitting 62% inside the arc!!! Hitting 30% from 3, but that's going to improve.

    A few points of clarification:
    (1) By my calculations, the Rockets are still ever-so-slightly OVER the cap.
    (2) Bobby Brown (now on his second separate contract this season) is ineligible to be traded this season.
    (3) Even with cap room, a 4-year deal would be worth much more than $4 million with the new vet minimum.

Also, speaking of Gary Payton II, I found an interesting wrinkle in the new CBA and how it addresses D-League affiliate allocation. Teams can no longer do what the Rockets did with Payton this past year by offering a substantially/fully guaranteed deal to an undrafted rookie to come to camp, then allocating him to their D-League affiliate once waived. Now, ONLY players signing Player Contracts with no more than a $50k guarantee can be allocated to the Team's D-League affiliate OR signed to a Two-Way Contract for that season. See 2017 CBA, Article II, Section 11(c)(ii).

I think this new rule could have a material impact on how NBA teams handle the best undrafted players on draft night. Some teams will be apprehensive about offering substantial guarantees right away to guys who more likely than not will end up getting cut. Whereas in the past those guys were getting those guarantees, in part, so that the NBA team could get the player's exclusive D-League rights if he were cut, now that benefit will be gone. Had this rule been in place under the prior CBA, it is questionable whether the Rockets would have offered the deals they did on draft night to guys like Robert Covington, Payton or Kyle Wiltjer.

Bima, can you explain how these two way contracts work. I've heard about them in passing, but not a deep dive. How do they impact the 15 man roster? What can be offered?
