Brewer was playing deep in the 4th quarter yesterday in a crucial game against OKC. Harden and Gordon were playing poorly. We needed someone else to come in and offer something different. Our remaining bench options were KJ and Ennis. We are so deep in the frontcourt but really thin on guards/wings. The balance of our roster has room for improvement. We got two wins against Boston and OKC thanks to opponents missing layups. These two wins shouldnt mask our offensive struggles in 4th quarters. There is a real deficiency in our roster.

this. This. This! THIS! Thank you, Mathloom, for instantly squashing this madness. I'm so grateful I didn't have to read further than one post in to see everything I wanted to say already said. If Bev is your third guard, your guard rotation is GREAT! I don't know how you people don't see this. Bev is like if Charles Oakley were a point guard. He's like if Bruce Bowen were a point guard. I hope he retires a Rocket.
You need a 4th guy though. There's a big drop off after 3. Bev and Gordon don't have the greatest track record with health.
Three guards is the thinnest rotation in the league. Any time one of them is not performing, we struggle offensively. We need a solid 4th guard to replace Brewer/KJ minutes, provide insurance in case of injury, and help the team whenever one of Harden/Gordon/Beverly is having an off night like yesterday.
Yes, but that's a luxury at a time when we have many other necessities. The fact that a team's 4th guard who gets 5-10 minutes sucks is irrelevant over the course of the season when we are in need of upgrading 1 or 2 starting positions. It's absolutely NOT true that we struggle when one of the 3 are not performing. In fact, if we're thinking about anyone other than Harden on this team, Bev or Gordon are the ones who we can most afford to underperform in a game and we've seen that time and time again. And the reason is PRECISELY because of everything I said about Bev - he is helping the team even when he's struggling shooting/scoring. Even when he was 1 of 8 against the Thunder, he was in fact a critical part of the win. OF COURSE it would be helpful to upgrade the roster spots that barely ever play, but we do not need to imo. KJ is more than capable of handling 5-10 minutes and if injuries open up minutes he's as good a 4th guard as 99% of teams have. And his contract is very suitable for a 4th guard.
