Potentially it could be. Of course, at the same time, Romo could go down for the season in the first game and My homie almost certainly wouldn't be ready to play the first season so we could do that and still have a season with Osweiler at QB. There's no move that isn't somewhat risky.
Yes it is not easy to find a franchise QB. That's the more reason why you shouldn't bet the house on one. Romo could come here and play horribly or get hurt again (very likely if they o-line isn't fixed). Desperation is hardly effective when building a team. You don't want them to be the Colts and you don't want them to be the Rams either. You don't want your team to be one sack away from 2-12. Make sure you have a team that can be competitive. The Texans have been competitive with bad QB play, you don't want to lose that at the chance of one player. If they can get Romo (or whoever) and still keep the team (o-line, receivers, pass rush, secondary, special teams) strong then pull the trigger.
#TheSeanPlan or bust for me (or Philip Rivers becomes available/affordable). Can not be the team left without a chair twice in the same decade (see Schaub over Manning decision 2012). Would consider altering Sean Plan to draft multiple O-linemen with 1st rounder, QB with 2nd rounder, and then possibly more O-line in 3rd. Question: What do people think the impact will be losing Wilfork as the run-stopper in the middle of the defense?

We pick Romo up for kinda cheap, draft OT then Mahomes in the second (trade up). Honestly the worst that could happen after that is Romo gets hurt, and Mahomes isnt ready.. But at least we have a starting tackle. My name is Chris, and I live on dream island.
If Romo gets hurt, you still have Savage. Worst case scenario is that both of your injury prone quarterbacks get hurt in the first game and your rookie has to come in. In all likelihood, you wouldn't have to put the rookie in till week 8, at least.
The Romo contract mentioned in the article above seems too steep for Texans - obviously as they laid out possible but hampers your spending capabilities. Otherwise I agree with the plan. Kind of crazy that market for Romo is that high. Dude can't stay healthy and has what, 1 playoff win. But then again a guy like Brock got what he got.
Regarding Romo's 1 playoff win: For the vast majority of his career I thought he threw too many interceptions, especially in crunch time, to win a Super Bowl. That changed for me during the '14 season. In '14, I thought for the first time that I was watching a Romo that had finally matured into a championship caliber QB. They came up short at Green Bay in the 2nd Round (Dez drop game), but were right there and I was expecting Romo/Dallas to take the next step the following year. Then injuries '15, '16 prevented us from seeing that next step. Yes injury prone. Yes 37. But if we get the '14 Romo, possibly extra motivated by his demotion to Dak, you could catch lightning in a bottle for a year or two......or he continues to get injured and you get nothing, but I would at least try.
