He took a pile driving tackle from Kiko Alonso in week 2 and was a chance to play week 4 but was held out by the team. All QB's get hurt at some point of their careers and this one was not serious.
Yep. In 3 sentences or less: Everything should remain as is for next year, with all resources devoted everywhere other than QB. And... Brock still may get better! The last part is laughable especially since we've all seen the regression over 17 games... everybody but the guy who claims to be a self-proclaimed expert. At least this proves the bullshit is in fact real. And it was able to be done without a 709 word essay (which, like teddy KGB, is his tell...the more words he needs, the less he really has a leg to stand on).
The way I see it...this team has a very limited window of opportunity. This isn't the Astros where we have 4-5 solid years ahead of us. You go and get a QB, even if it's at a higher cost than you'd like. What's the alternative? 9-7 for the next 3 years with zero chance of winning a ring? No thanks. Does giving a 2nd instead of a 4th for Jimmy G really mortgage our future? Does giving Romo 15 million really make that much of a difference over giving him 8 million? The potential benefit is way too great to bypass...and rolling with what we have at QB plus a rookie is just unacceptable and makes zero sense. Romo plus someone like Mahomes would be a solid combo too, like Sammy suggested.
Hell, Tom savage improved them simply by not dropping back too deep in the pocket, yet another of Brock's several critical weaknesses. (Can't make quick enough decisions, stares receivers down, is extremely careless and turnover prone, can't recognize where the pressure is really coming from, can't hit guys with accuracy, namelynon slant routes...but hold out hope guys that he gets better!)
Unless Romo gets hurt in week 2 and Mahomes turns out to be nothing at all. Nothing is guaranteed, but they need to try something.
Sure, but the alternative isn't any better. At this point, the Texans have to do anything and everything to get a quality QB.
well that still shouldn't stop them. finding the right QB to lead a franchise is never easy. got to keep at it if you want results
Sure, and if the Texans were in that same position from last year again, signing Brock would be the right thing to do. You have to claw and fight for a QB, and until you do, nothing should stop you.
And what was said about the Mallett trade, and what was said about the Hoyer signing, and what was said about the Fitz signing.....the "do something, anything" crowd should be really happy about the last several seasons, they've done it their way thus far and it has lead to garbage every year......and they want to keep going hoping that a miracle will eventually just happen.
I suggest they draft a QB for the future and that means going with either Brock, Savage, or potentially Romo if he takes a massive paycut for this season. I'm done with picking up other team's garbage.
I don't think anyone thought Hoyer and Fitz were anything but stop gaps. Those weren't signings that were meant to fill in our franchise QB situation. Mallett was one where there may have been some hope...and the cost to find out was the most minimal it could have been. No loss there. Brock is the only one that led to a loss. And again, how do you find a franchise QB without taking multiple stabs at it? What's your solution? Just draft a QB and cross your fingers? Is that any better/worse than anything being suggested here?
Unless you strike lightning in a bottle, the afore-mentioned "miracle", with a rookie QB who can come in right away and perform at an pro bowl-type level... which I guess Dak Prescott's and Tom Brady's do happen once every 20 years..... its going to take at least 2-3 years (Derek Carr's development) before the proposed drafted QB is ready to take that elite step (if he ever even gets there at all). The crux is that this team is ready to win now. Teams in recent memory that have dumped their draft projects for veterans, in a win now approach, have actually succeeded (Broncos, Cardinals). The Texans also had the most success in franchise history when they found their starting QB via trading for a talented backup. Thinking these are not viable options simply due to (lol) Mallet/Fitz/Hoyer.... is extremely short-sighted.
This is what kills me. Players' careers are short to begin with - JJ Watt isn't going to last forever - and there are only 16 games in a season, so every game, every season COUNTS. People are so ready, for some unfathomable reason, to basically throw away an entire NFL season. NO NFL SEASON IS A THROW-AWAY! Yes, draft better. Does anyone really have hope that the guys who passed on Derek Carr will make good QB draft decisions? I *hope* so, but if you have a proven commodity at QB available, you are stupid for not taking advantage of the opportunity.
