I was sad when he was traded even though it got us Drexler and we won a second chip from it. He had the best crosscourt passes and he complemented Olajuwon in the paint on both ends of the court really well. That was maybe my favorite backcourt duo from when I started watching.
OOOOOOOO TEEEEEEEEEEE, OTIS THORPE! No big man could finish on the break like OT. As much as I loved the Drexler trade, I hate that we had to give him up.
http://www.friars.com/genrel/102716aaa.html College To Honor Otis Thorpe PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced today (Oct. 27) that on Saturday, February 11, Providence College will honor six of its all-time greatest athletes. I have a picture of OT holding my oldest son who was about 4 at the time, OT is a great guy and was a great power forward
Long before cable and highlights, at the time of the trade for, I was unhappy about losing McCray, but my friend told me I will like OT, to trust him, and he was right as I went on to love OT... even in 20 pixel definition. The pictures revealed a world of dizzying geological activity. Honor the man.
Why did the Blazers give up on OT so fast and trade him to DET for garbage? A little bit of history. DET ended up trading OT in 1997 to the Grizzlies for a future 1st round pick which ended up being the infamous Darko Milicic pick in 2003. Poor OT was traded 7 times in his career. Wish he could have been a Rocket for life. If Portland was going to just trade him after like 30 games for bum ass Bill Curly, might as well have just done the deal for someone else since Clyde wanted to come home anyway.
I think that was the season Don Chaney unleashed the Kenny Smith / OT pick and roll that was unstoppable.
One of those weird trades that both sucked and was brilliant, simultaneously. We don't get the first title without OT, and we don't get the second one without Drex.
Yes, I have a feeling Moochie Norris and Aaron Brooks could be replaced as "Legends" by other members of the Rockets fraternity
