Because you cant put your eggs in one basket...its the single most important position on the field. If they sign Romo, do they just go with that and forget the position? It would be stupid if they stopped there.

If they signed Romo they'd be stupid to begin with, so what difference does it make?

Also, if they bring in a FA, are you cutting Savage then, or are you suggesting they stick with 4 QB's when you draft random person just to say you did?

But then you're almost forced to cut Savage. Brock isn't going anywhere and no team is going to keep 4 QBs on the roster.

He could be the best qb on the roster :D

So Savage, Brock, and rookie QB at least next year? Don't know if they take Jimmy or Romo. As far as Jimmy, I put in the Jimmy post that the WRs, TEs, RBs getting open were the best thing about the Pats offense; makes Jimmy's job so much easier. Best case scenario is that one of the QB needy teams trade for Romo or Jimmy, knocking one of the draft QBs down to us.

He will be soon I'm sure. But in the scenario where we sign Romo and draft a QB, that would still make 4.

What's crazy is that there could be as many as 9 teams looking for a QB this summer, probably closer to 7 since someone will definitely pickup Rivers or Cutler if their teams get in the mix. Even worse is that all those teams will be picking before us in the draft.

    Browns
    49ers
    Bears
    Jets
    Chargers
    Bills
    Broncos
    Giants
    Texans

Cardinals could be a possibility too.

Is there really any point in holding onto Savage? I like the guy much more than Brock, but fiddling around isn't doing us any benefits. We need to find a franchise QB above all else. Savage, I like, but don't think he's a franchise QB...the guy gets hurt more than Romo. If we don't have options, so be it. But if you get Romo and are happy about a QB in the draft, you take it.

The reverse side of this is if the more teams reach for a QB in the first round, the more quality non-QB players could fall to #25. I'll take an Adams or Hooker. Maybe Lattimore if they are forced to franchise Bouye and can't afford to keep him.

I would hold on to Savage through preseason. Even if the Texans don't want him, they might be able to convince another team to trade for him. Sorta like the Eagles did with Bradford. They won't get as much for him, but its better than nothing.

Yup, you can get something for him.

Can they? 4th round pick who hasn't stayed healthy...wouldn't expect more than a conditional 6th or 7th round pick, if that.

And he's a free agent after the season..

If you get rid of him, then for sure Osweiler is going to be the QB next season. If you want that, then it's not a problem.

Although the Pats got that for Mallett, and he had never proved anything on the field. Savage has proved at least serviceable.

I think he'd get a fifth that could turn into a fourth if he stayed healthy/played enough.

I don't think any team is trading for him as a starter and trading for him as a backup when he's about to be a free agent? I don't see it.

    Matt Barkley(4-98) was traded for a 7th.
As you mentioned, Ryan Mallett got a 7th.
    Colt McCoy(3-185) was traded with a 5th for a 5th & 7th
    Luke McCown(4-106) was traded for a 6th

Personally I would stay away from FA QBs. If Romo breaks another nail he's retiring. Jimmy G is another Brock O waiting to hapoen.
