If Gay is traded there will be clarity concerning him opting in or out. He is still most likely to become a free agent.
RG had better have the sense of GMs that if he were to opt-out there would be competition for him to opt-to. Retaining his deal sounds smartest to me unless he receives assurance of 'the' final contract from someone out there.
Im not set in stone on my belief but I don't think he gets traded because expiring contracts don't carry weight like they used to. I know your set in stone with your opinion so we will agree to disagree.
Well. If Bosh is bought out and gets his money AND is willing to play for beans here this season. Then the bar the rockets use for physicals just might be lowered. What's the risk reward in that scenario for the rox?
Miami will waive Bosh after March 1st, meaning he'll be ineligible for the playoffs. I don't think he's coming back though, not this year anyways.
If the Rockets show themselves to be desperate enough to add a player and he winds up dead because he played and shouldn't have? Might not be a great PR move (not to be callous about Bosh's condition; he needs to stay away from basketball).
IMO Bosh is done. He has had blood clot problems for at least the last two years. No way he takes unnecessary chances to drop dead playing bb. A one time occurrence is one thing. Recurrence is quite another.
I'd only like to see Bosh back on the court (doesn't really matter what team) just so he can screw Pat Riley and the Heat. All he needs to do is play 25 games in garbage time. Heck, if they really don't want to risk it, just run him out there for a "McHale/D-Mo special" where he's subbed in to guard an inbounds pass and then subbed out 4 seconds later. End result, Bosh still gets his money + vets min, Riley and the Heat are screwed with luxury tax and have no cap space to sign a free agent.
We would lose 3-point shooting at the PF position (Millsap instead of Anderson), but gain at the C (Ibaka vs Capela). We could roll out 5 decent 3-point shooters and be solid defensively as well. Plus we would have an extra shot-maker on the bench (Hardaway Jr). Between the 3 of them (Ibaka, Millsap, Hardaway), we would replace most of Anderson's spacing/3-point threat, plus address our current weaknesses.
This is a bs post. I'm not set on anything concerning Rudy Gay. I simply brought him up because he is a larger contract that is likely an expiring and could be used for salary matching in a larger deal.
64% of Ibaka's shots this season have come from outside of 10-ft, including 31% of his shots have come from beyond the 3-pt line. He's shooting right at 45% from 10-feet out. I don't think we lose as much as you think we do.
The likelihood of the Rockets getting a legitimate star player in the next 2-3 years is very small. Players are less likely to sign elsewhere with the new contract rules. I don't think that Ibaka is a "star" but I do think that he makes the Rockets a better team if he doesn't cost the Rockets a key piece. I see no reason why the Rockets shouldn't be willing to move a #1 pick, and/or Harrell or Dekker. Ibaka would probably be worth resigning based on the market and new cap room. Personally if the Rockets could get Ibaka for a #1, salary pieces and Dekker or Harrell; I would then try to move Capela for a near all star player (if one is available...... Dragic, Whiteside, etc) and try to get a traditional center in a third deal. Obviously not likely to happen though.
because harrel and dekker may become the stars..gsw didnt make trade for stars... they developed them within
Dekker and Harrel have literally no chance of ever being as good as Serge Ibaka. You get an elite playoff defender and one of the best shooting bigs in the league. You can put him on Blake/Draymond/Lamarcus/Marc, ANYONE. If we have Harden/Gordon/Ryno/Ibaka locked up, and then we have our MLE in the offseason, we are going to be right where we want to be. You will not find a better fit at C for Mike D'Antoni and James Harden than a prime Serge Ibaka. Watch those block numbers rise to 2.5-3.5 when he is stationed down low and not playing PF-fiddle to Bismack and Nikola.
Idk here. Dekker and Harrell have no chance of becoming solid players? Cause that's what ibaka is/was. He was never a star and is a role player just like them.
If you want to rate players by your arbitrary NBA 2K "Star" standards that's fine. I'd rather have Serge Ibaka than "star" Carmelo Anthony. Elite defender. Elite shooter at his position. Playoff proven knife fighter that has been in WARS. (Dekker and Harrell have no chance of being as effective as Serge Ibaka, period. The improvements they would have to make on both ends would be VAST. You could combine Sam and Trez Dragonball Z style and they would still not be able to defend, nor shoot like Serge Ibaka.)
As of now I cannot say neither of them will become solid players in the future until their improvement has peaked and they show otherwise. Ibaka is not on some unreachable level. He's a solid player. Not much more
