CD's jersey should not be in the rafters for precisely this reason. The Barkley trade basically crippled the Rockets' future for the next 9 years after it happened. It pushed Drexler into early retirement because he hated Charles. Sam and Robert went on to have illustrious careers afterwards for other winning teams while we sat there with Cato's contract, Stevie French Fries and Moochie's fro.

We may have deprived ourselves of a dynasty in the process. I'm not talking about championships, but we could at least been a top four seed for another 5-7 years with the primes of the guys we traded. Doing what we did would have been like San Antonio in 2001 saying "our window with Robinson and Duncan is closing so let's deal Parker and Manu for John Stockton."

If we had kept Sam I Am and Big Shot Bob, you might even have been looking at Hakeem retiring in Houston, still a winner even in his last year. I don't know why GMs keep making this mistake: don't try to emulate the Yankees. Instead, emulate the Spurs and Cards. Play the long game, always contend, and who knows what will happen in the playoffs.

Why didn't Barkley just refuse to play for $8M????

Instead he decides to get fat? WTF, that makes no sense. So he signed a contract for $8M and got fat instead of holding out for $12?

How come when Dwight essentially said the same thing you still talked trash but when its your boy Charles you're all up his ass defending him? you mock Tmac for not getting the Rox out of the first round but what has barkley ever done for the rox? at least Tmac still gets invited to Houston and is seen as one of the Rockets icons ever seen Barkley's fat ass in the toyota center?

Barkley is a total loser, he hasnt won anything, did all the bad things as a player but now sits on his high horse and keeps judging the current generation like he's MJ, Bird and Magic all rolled into 1. Barkley has done nothing but disrespect Houston from day 1, he called the Rox the worst team in the west multiple times, he called Morey a nerd, he talked trash to both Tmac and Yao, and he kept ranting on air about how alexender owed him money. Yet you keep standing on his side, you're a BOF aren't you? If you really love the Rox why do you keep stanning this fool when he clearly is a hater of the Rox organization and all it stands for?

    Is this really a sentence?

Ask yourself that question and then ask yourself if you know anything about Rockets basketball

Apparently you now have people thinking Tmac first round exits are better than going to the WCF and beating Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp in the semi finals.

No, from Day 1 , he got 20 points and 33 rebounds

In his first game with the Houston Rockets, Charles Barkley had a career-high 33 rebounds. He continued to battle injuries throughout the season and played only 53 games, missing fourteen because of a laceration and bruise on his left pelvis, eleven because of a sprained right ankle and four due to suspensions. He became the team's second leading scorer, averaging 19.2 points on .484 shooting; the first time since his rookie year that he averaged below 20 points per game. With Olajuwon taking most of the shots, Barkley focused primarily on rebounding, averaging 13.5 per game, the second best in his career. The Rockets ended the regular season with a 57–25 record and advanced to the Western Conference Finals, where they were defeated in six games by the Utah Jazz. Barkley averaged 17.9 points and 12.0 rebounds per game in another postseason loss.

Strike year was 50 games - but you're about spot on with the sentiment. An old guy missing a few games in a season with back to back to backs isn't a sign of laziness.

    Doctor,

You realize the phenomenon here right? People who are affected by Barkley's criticism WHO NEVER SAW HIM PLAY AS A ROCKET are trying to make ALTERNATIVE FACTS to justify the beliefs and sway casual fans into believing these lies.

You have some kid who got all the Barkley facts mixed up and thinks that its was Barkley who lost the series when Stockton hit the three, also Rockets fans don't post that footage on a Rockets site since it pisses us off when Karl Malone was holding Drexler and forcing Barkley to cover a Steph Curry distance 3 pointer.

Obviously us TRUE ROCKETS FANS OF THAT PERIOD , HATED SEATTLE and that was the main block we had to get over. These kids don't understand that. They only care about TNT and Twitter.

I not only see this attitude as the doom of our youth but of all human kinds. Sky Net was right.

I'm not sure he was even worth 8 million that year. I think Les should speak poorly of Chuck every chance he gets. Talk about how Chuck still owes him 7 million dollars and how he got robbed twice by the same man. Once for poor play, the other for poor play while being overweight.

If your company said hey we'll give you 100% of your salary and showed up with 66.7% you'd have to change your entire lifestyle.....oh yeah, and be pissed.

oh please we are supposedly talking about a Hall of Famer, and possibly or at least supposedly the greatest power forward of all time. hakeem would have been smart enough to realize what was happening and closed the gap much sooner. so would other power forwards such as Tim Duncan, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, rodman, russell, bird, etc. The difference is these guys are all winners.

remember that block in the finals that made kyrie's shot possible? Those are the winning defensive plays that people remember. Not some hands up shot contest weak close out that a hof player like stock will drain right over no problem

hakeem v jordan never happened bc somebody decided cupcakes were more important

The man preach defense and rebounding wins championships....and yet this will be the play he will always be remembered for. to bad we didn't have Draymond Green instead of Charles Barkley and that series.

Hope he didn't forget to generously tip the hookers, as Chuck would've.

Then we never have Yao Ming, and the rest of Rockets history from then until now is different. Interesting to think about.
