Yeah, the real reason Dave Rubin isn't a progressive anymore is because he is terrified of Muslims nowadays and was called out on his islamophobia. It triggered him all the way to the right side of spectrum, he's barely left on anything now proving that he likely never believed in liberal policies OR he's just swapped sides because he thinks it'll get him more eyeballs.

If he's so for "Having people say what they want to say without being judged for it." Then maybe he'd make a video condemning Trump for attacking judges that disagree with him and going after businesses like Nordstrom.

Islamophobia, (along with racist, Xenophobia, Nazi, mysogynist, white privelege other leftist slurs) are just terms meant to silence opposition to their propaganda. Who wants to be labeled one of these right? Its a form of thought control.

The problem is, the left trots it out ANY time someone disagrees with them. I guess everyone who doesn't think the way they do MUST be one or all of these things right?

Its a form of censorship that doesn't work anymore. The big lie.

Or did you notice that the President is Donald Trump?

Or...they are terms that properly apply to people who display those characteristics. Dei can continue to say racist things but "Don't call him racist!" is more what people do when they are actually OKAY with racism. Their silence is encouragement. MLK preached the same thing.

Or perhaps, people once again...trot it out when it is actually applicable and for some reason you rather defend those people or say nothing about it. I don't know.

And what you are trying to do is silent people who dare to call out racists, islamophobes, xenophobes, etc etc. So really it is exactly the same thing.

This is what is called 'White Fragility' in that it's fine for people like Dei to say racist things but it is not cool to actually call him racist.

The problem is that those people have no credibility due to crying wolf far too many times. They'll "call out" people as racists, Islamophobes, xenophobes, or whatever at the drop of a hat. Unfortunately those allegations have no weight anymore.

I'm not saying it doesn't exist. I'm saying that it's overused and the reason it's overused is an effort to win a losing argument. I'm also saying its intellectually lazy and the most obvious proof that I'm right (and its losing its impact) is Donald Trump's presidency.

Whatever excuse you want to use to excuse it, I suppose. I'd say conservatives cry wolf about many things.Nowadays mostly about "Free Speech" being quelled. For some though it's more like "I want the right to say whatever I can and I want everyone to tolerate my intolerance."

I think it is intellectually lazy to ignore the calls of racism instead of looking at the case itself and judging it for yourself.

When someone says "Black people are ______" or "Islam is _____ and ____" (fill in bad words.) maybe take a moment to consider "Did he just say something intolerant? This person that replied to him called him a racist? Is that correct?!"

Instead of going into straight defense mode, look at the discussion.

As for Trump winning, that wasn't the sole reason...let's remember once again...he had a narrow victory and lost the popular vote. So I don't think him winning is proof that people are tired of being called racist or whatever excuse there is.

Oh, how many people have you guys used that term on? There was a TV presenter, I think it was Maher or someone at FOX, who said they regretted calling Romney and McCain racists because, when Trump came along who they considered a real racist, the term had already lost all its value.

Whenever you start losing an argument, scream "racist!" and whomever you're speaking to would have immediately lost. It's a variation of Godwin's law.

Sure, there's issues with the regressive left, be it people violently protesting others for saying things that they don't like and vandalizing property in order to silence them or if it's merely the lazy nonsense of branding people racists, homophobes, Islamophobes or whatever simply because they don't like what they are saying. They are really just about the same in the end. Intolerance of thought is a real problem with the regressive left today and it shows itself in many, many different ways.

Why do so many conservatives have problems treating people like individuals? Who called Romney a racist?

    Fixed that for you.

I see that JayGoogle agrees with us. Mission accomplished!

Labels are stupid, dishonest, and the sign of a losing argument. Good. Lets all stop shall we?

This is a great video, Dei. FWIW, it's why I left the Republican party as well. Having the government enforce ANY set of beliefs on those who don't hold the same beliefs is certainly not conservative, either...it is an overreach of government, the very thing conservatives should be against, as well, IMHO.

I would appreciate some honest comment on this from those on the left. Given various comments already on this thread, and other similar threads, I would think that many on the left might agree with it as well, at least somewhat. Would that be correct? If not, comments around why not would also be appreciated. Not looking to get into an insult fest...this seems worthy of an actual dialogue. Maybe one just between those on the left, perhaps, but I at least am not looking to criticize anyone...really looking for an honest dialogue.

Not really. You just pointed to other problems in order to pretend like those that I spoke about didn't exist. There's problems with both, which might have been your point.....that those crazies on the left are truly no different from those on the right that they whine so much about and vice versa. I would agree, the dipshits that cry racism at a drop of a hat are no different than those they are trying to "call out".

Did you see my earlier post in this thread? It's long but it's pretty much about this...

Basically...yes there are problems with calling people racist for the slightest of slights. Ellen's picture with Usain Bolt and the reaction of that is the PERFECT example of that...but there are times that people need to be called out on their intolerance if they clearly display it.

It's fine for them to hold their views, but I hate the blowback that someone can say incredibly offensive things and expect NO response, as troll Milo does for example...and this is not talking about the recent riot. More about his twitter antics.

The video is fine, but it's mostly semantics. I don't call myself "progressive" or "left"; maybe "liberal." But speaking as one of the "liberal" types, I don't care what "progressive" means, because I don't use the term. I also don't care about "left" and "right" very much, because people lump the right in Nazi Germany with the right in America today, likewise the left, and it's an ignorant exercise.

I agree with the video: I am a white male and some "progressive"/whatever people dislike me simply because I am a white male, and that's not cool. They seem to think I get free lunches at the White House for being a white male. Over at salon.com, I got in a debate with some feminists about the women's march. Those feminists mainly are self-centered. They want more stuff for themselves, but they certainly do not want equality, like, say, 50% of our fighting force being women? Hey, women, PLEASE take my Selective Service spot. I'll pay a woman $10,000 to go to war in my place. Do feminists care about rape of males in prison? Hell no! White feminists basically want more stuff for themselves, and anyone who is not a white feminist is from the caveman era to them. They are selfish as hell, as are many many people on the non-feminist side too. Basically most of the **** we all debate is self-centered interests. But the official meaning of "progressive" or "left" or even "liberal" is pretty much all BS irrelevant semantics to me.

    Then we have common ground!

p.s. don't know much about Milo or his twitter antics so I have no comment on him/them.

You just say that because you are a racist Islamophobic sexist bigot.

See how easy that is? See how pointless that kind of allegation is given how it's used?

You're the king of facile arguments.
Lee Harvey Oswald: "I'm a murderer? No you are! See how easy that is?"
It's a BS tactic. Some people really are racists and murderers. The "I'm rubber, you're glue" technique is strictly for children.

I don't like Dave Rubin much, I feel like he's swayed way too far to the right just because his former employer didn't like his views on Islam. I feel like he's the left version of Glenn Beck, and he's trying to get a bit more views from those on the other side now...

Unlike Sam Harris and Maher who hold the same views, he's pretty conservative now and it happened overnight for him. Almost all he does now is whine about "SJWs" and "Free Speech" and "Regressives" and he's turned into the very thing he speaks out against. Unlike the two I mentioned who also speak about the same thing, they are still liberal on most of their positions. So I don't trust the guy basically, I don't think you stop being a liberal because you side with conservatives on one issue or another.

He does have a point, but he just goes to the extreme with it basically. I think what Bill Maher said about the general outrage culture is right.

He does have a point about trigger warnings though. I hate that ****. We have a rating system for shows, games, and whatnot. When you try to get a show to shut down or boycott it because a character on the show was raped, yeah...that's BS for me and I agree with that.
