Reading that article describes a lot of folk in small towns around Texas. Sad state of affairs and their President nor Congressmen are going to do anything to really try and fix it. But hey, they'll get some good lip service. That'll be nice for them I guess.

Also want to point out that they're poor and still were able to obtain an ID to vote.

Those people benefit from Obamacare as was stated in the article. I know the running trend is to say Obamacare is a huge failure but you asked if Obama helped and the poorest white town in America is actually benefitting from it. Right now. And the GOP and Trump want to repeal perhaps the one thing that is actually benefitting them. I'd love to hear how Trump is going to replace ACA and make it better for those poor white folk. Would you share that wonderful healthcare plan with me that's going to make it better for them?

Yes. God bless him for chasing the jobs away with taxes and over-regulation and forcing people to live off welfare, and getting rid of people's affordable healthcare plans.

Yea. That town has been going down the crapper since the 70s as the article stated. That's multiple decades of both GOP and Democrat Presidents and Congressman that could have done something. Jimmy Carter tried. Obama was able to with some that did use ACA. But you're right man. Obama's policies back in 2009 are responsible for that town's poverty since the 70s. You iz a real smart chemist.

Yeah, people have a huge problem staying on topic here.

Let's see exactly what Trump and co. do for this struggling town in Kentucky, where they overwhelmingly voted for Trump.

I hope he can help them bigly. Chicago is irrelevant. Clinton, LOL -- she who lost the electoral college -- is irrelevant to this discussion.

let us see how rural Kentucky prospers with their new president and a GOP-controlled legislature, and nay, even the majority leader of the senate representing their fair land!

    They're right about not sugarcoating.

    More on the economy:

Major employers in Beattyville and Lee County include:

    • Three Forks Regional Jail (multi-county jail serving the east-central area of Kentucky including Powell County, Wolfe County, Owsley County, and Breathitt County)
    • ACS, Affiliated Computer Systems (data and transaction processing)
    • Lee County Public Schools, the largest employer in Beattyville
    • Lee County Wood Products, (Sawmill)
    • Kentucky River Community Care (mental health facility serving the east Kentucky region)
    • People's Exchange Bank. Previously, the bank had its headquarters and two locations in Beattyville. The bank closed its downtown branch and moved its headquarters to Winchester, with only one branch remaining open.
    • Experience Works, Inc (non-profit organization and largest National grantee of Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) funds from the U.S. Department of Labor)
    • Lee County Care and Rehabilitation Center (nursing Facility with a 120-bed capacity)
The Lee Adjustment Center is a vacant, for-profit, medium security prison, with a capacity of 800 inmates, owned by Corrections Corporation of America. Vermont prisoners rioted in 2004 and were joined by Kentucky prisoners. Kentucky removed its last inmates in 2010, and Vermont did so in 2015.[

Obviously what they need is more direct government assistance, more illegal immigration, and more offshoring of existing jobs.

The GOP stance is don't give them freebie. They will just be lazy and addictive to it. So, pull away Obamacare. Reduce food stamp and other social services. Remove low-cost internet programs for the poor (already done). Soon, these folks will have survival instinct kick in and those that can adopt, will survive and be better off. Those that can't - well, their fault and we are all better off for it.

Great, so you are finally recognizing that immigration is an economic issue. Why then has it taken you this long?
