Honestly, who really watches 100+ channels anyway? Why do people need that many channels? For me, it's sports and maybe a few channels for news and TV shows. That can be easily reduced to around 20-25 channels MAX!

Texans either with antenna or if on ESPN, then Sling.

Getting Astros and Rockets is a problem. Need to find online streams.

Yup. I basically pay $100 bucks a month strictly to watch the Rockets and Astros, with the occasional trip to ESPN. Every time I pay my bill I know I'm a complete sucker, but oh well.

If you pay the same amount what is the difference?
I laugh at people that act like cord cutting is so much better, and then they go out and get all the sports channels, league pass, Netflix, hbo go. News flash: you ain't cord cutting.

Real cord cutters get hulu and maybe Netflix. or vice versa and that's it.

If you are spending 65 bucks on playstation vue, or 44 bucks on sling, Netflix 9.99, 11.99 hulu, 15 bucks for hbo go, 119.99 league pass. lol.

Holy crap: playstation vue is charging you more than direct tv would charge.

Maybe I was too harsh, but honestly I have probably more experience with cord cutting than most people here. I started really really early when there wasn't half as much stuff out there as there are now. And there are strengths and weaknesses on both sides of it.

I don't really think that most people that cord cut save THAT much money anymore, so if that is the motivation I think you are doing it for the wrong reasons.

Originally, I cord cut to save money, obviously, and I still do save some money. But what I want to get across is that what I like about cord cutting is the fact that I don't have to have or watch a tv, that everything comes to me on a computer, I'm addicted to my computer and can't even watch regular tv anymore.

Also, I think watching a program on time delay service like hulu is a lot better because I don't have to watch commercials, I can pause the program when I want to, etc. As opposed to live tv where I am stuck with everything I DONT want.

I have Netflix ($10), Hulu ($7.99), Seeso ($3.99), NBA League Pass (which I would have to get to watch the rockets anyway), and an antenna.

It's definitely way cheaper than the $85 a month comcast wanted to charge me for cable. I also find myself doing way more things that don't involve a tv, so that is a plus too.

I'm with you on that, I have directv just so I can get root sports to watch astros/rockets but I'm at the end of my rope with these big ass bills. Can someone tell me how reliable the ballstreams are and what the video quality is?

Try the streams they have on reddit. It's not great quality but it's good enough for me. The really big games usually get on TNT or ESPN anyway

Maybe I've been with DirecTV for so long, that they don't lower my bill anymore when I call. I pay about $128 for direcTV. That's not even with HBO or other premium channels. My contract is done soon, and I'll be cutting the cord with something like Sling/PSVue + Netflix. No way I'm up to the $128 with that.

You could do DirecTV Now with HBO for like $50.

I'll look into that one too, along with Sling, and PSVue. Plus I'll do an HD Antenna.

How is this even a question in 2016-2017? It's like asking if you prefer cubed ice over buying a huge block and chipping it away yourself.

You need to call them after contract is up. I got my grandma 50 dollars off a month for a year. Believe me, they are willing to deal. You might even be able to do that now if you are willing to sign a contract. Call them. You might be surprised.

Direct TV now is terrible. Honestly if you are looking for live TV I'd wait on Hulu, which has announced that they will have a 40 or less offering this year. Hulu's streaming is a lot better and more stable than most of those services.

Terrible how? My streams have been perfect, except for NBA TV being blacked out randomly for no reason.

All I know is that T-Mobile nixed a promotion for direct TV now because the service was bad and they offered their subscribers a year's worth of Hulu instead.

T-Mobile and Sprint are always trying to throw dirt on AT&T and Verizon.

It has been better for me lately. Previously, it was spotty service. Some times it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. It would complain I had too many watchers when I was the only one. I would get buffering often. The quality was garbage. This is through the web browser, the mobile app, and Chromecasting it.

I have Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, etc. No issues with any of those, ie. my internet connection is solid.
