Both the Magic and the Rockets should retire his jersey.

According to many basketball experts, T-Mac is a lock to make the HOF.

That's right, it's the Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA Hall of Fame

I don't blame it all on Tmac and personally I have no issues with him making the HOF, but getting his number retired by the Rockets isn't something I support for the reasons that you mentioned. Even if it were to ever happen I certainly won't cry about it nor do I have any personal vendetta against folks who liked Tmac. I liked Tmac too at one point before he checked out and gave up on the team.

Anyway, I've posted my opinions on the whole thing but it's not a subject I feel that needs to be harped on. I'm not the sort of fan who likes to live on the bad memories of others, but more so I like to focus on the positive things and accomplishments that the team has made. Unfortunately, the Yao/Tmac era will mostly be remembered for the injuries and playoff failures and the way Tmac handled this at the end of his tenure wasn't very professional.

Harden signing that extension this summer went a long way in proving his loyalty to Houston as well.

How about Yao Ming getting out rebounded in that '07 series by Carlos ****ing Boozer who is almost a foot shorter? Seriously! I am a Yao fan but he gets a pass here for that series while T-Mac put up some amazing numbers in the playoffs. The only thing Yao did that T-Mac didn't is get to the second round, that's it, not the WCF, the freaking second round! Yao deserved to get his jersey retired and deserve to get in the HOF as well, but IMO his accomplishments as a player on the court (I am not talking about his off-court impacts which are HUGE) are not better than T-Mac's.

Yao played about two seasons worth of more games than T-Mac in the regular season and 8 more playoff games and got to the second round. He's also 5th in all time win shares for the Rockets and T-Mac is 15th. Yao is superior in every way in contribution to the Rockets on the court compared to T-Mac.

That being said, I think T-Mac is a hall of fame player (keeping in mind that basketball HOF is the easiest to get into). Just does not deserve his numbers up in the rafters at TC.

In fewer seasons, Harden has equal All-NBA selections as Tracy.... two of those are First Teams compared to Tracy's zero.

Harden is almost a shoe-in for another First Teamer this season. Tracy only had one his entire career.

All-NBA count is not a good argument for McGrady.

Matt Bullard is more worthy of having his number retired by the Rockets than TMac.

Those who want to retire Tracy's number are just like the soccer mom's (and pansy @SS men) who want to give participation trophies. You reward greatness. The guy never got out of the first round of the playoffs (in Toronto, Orlando and Houston--13 yrs with these teams). When you have to spout off regular season accomplishments first that says everything.

Retire his number? Not just no but HELL NO!!!!

Doubtful that he gets his jersey number retired here in Houston, unfortunately he chose to "quit" on the team right when his name was getting thrown around to being traded. Had he been traded to another team when his value was still high (or rather better than nothing) I think Les would have retired his number.

Boston retired #1 for their founder/owner, 2 for Red, and have a banner for longtime announcer Johnny Most (Lakers did the same for Chick Hearn). Knicks "retired" 613 for Red Holzman (the number of wins he had as their coach). I'm sure there's more.

He quit because his back broke... He still had amazing performances that razzled and dazzled. I think Orlando should retire his number just for that if not Houston.

Did any player with retired number ever complain about inability of deep playoff run because of their teammate were awful?
nope. I'd rather to have Chuck Hayes's number retired.

I feel bad for Penny Hardaway, but he never played for Houston.

Where did you see this? Because when they announced and gave the jackets it was a Trailblazers jacket he was wearing.

The only other picture they took was not at a game and official, you can't tell which one it is but it's the same color-way as the one he has in the first one.
