The only church I'm tangentially familiar with due to family connections, the First Methodist Church of Johnson City, Texas, is big on giving. They do food/clothing/school supply drives, cook meals, fund scholarships locally and are involved with a couple of great international charities - Heifer Intl (they teach and provide agricultural assistance to help the poor self-provide food/income) and an org whose name I can't remember that does clean water well/rainwater systems in Latin America.
