Having lived in so many places for over 15 years now (Ireland/Cal/Ohio/Chi/NYC); I can say for sure that people in Houston are overly sensitive about what people outside of the city of Houston say about the city. The reality is that most of the rest of the world does not think poorly of Houston. It is viewed as a large, growing and emerging city full of opportunity. People in cities like Chicago and NYC think their own cities suck.... (especially Chicago)......... my point being that it really isn't any different anywhere you live, there are people that want to move out and people that complain about the city they live in or visit.

IMO Houston is FAR better than Chicago and NYC to live in. Chicago is full of decaying areas, a mediocre economy, homeless people and shitty weather, not to mention, outside of Chicago is basically Alabama mixed with a special form of white trash only found in the NE.

Let the guy say what he wants about Houston. He is used to the North East, and he is going for a shock angle.

Did you write this post in the 1980's? Then, it might have been true. No one tells anyone to go to The Galleria when looking for things to do. There's plenty to do, indoors and out. Also, every large city has a lot of suburbs. Why is that a bad thing?

Houston is merely a city where people work and live. It has everything pretty much every big city except a centralized hot spot, albeit Midtown and Downtown are slowly becoming that.

    Houston is good foodie destination.

What airport did he go to? Bush or Hobby? Hobby is located in the hood, but I never see any homeless people.

Yes, Houston sucks. Now please stop coming here from FL, NY, and other states and making the 45 even worse.

    Thanks.

Never heard the galleria recommendation one. Of course you have to drive everywhere, Houston is a big city lol. Don't care about doing things outdoors so i'm cool with that. Basing on your criteria I don't think it sucks.

Discovery Green - That park is so small it'd take up just 30 minutes and you can see everything
    Hermann Park - legit
River Oaks shopping district - It's a mall so same thing as Galleria
    Kemah - So far away
Centennial Park - Isn't this part of Hermann Park or is it something different?
    Water Wall - decent

    The rest are just neighborhoods?

He's in the minority because almost everyone else agrees that Houston is a first class city and a great host city for any type of event.

I wouldn't recommend Kemah unless they are visiting from a non coastal city.

I mean if you are from, LA, San Diego, Miami etc, their beaches and coasts are way nicer than Galveston
    The water is actually blue.

Only 3 are neighborhoods, and they all have a unique charm and plenty of places to see in each. You didn't bother to read through my list, so I'm not going to bother to go into more detail with you. Learn to read the entire post before replying in the future to people.

    You're welcome...

Fatty's list is much better. Everyone that visits me wants to visit NASA. All are severely disappointed. Hermann park, museums and legit restaurants are all in walking distance of each other after driving 10 minutes. NASA is 45 minutes away and over massive construction.

I guess... just that when I travel I want to see places that are uniquely to the area. If want a nice park, museum and good restaurants, why not just visit new york?
