Why do you guys bother with the far right supporters?

Frankly, I gave up.

Intellectually lazy, they stick to right wing radio talking points and never bother to attempt to understand the issues. They can only repeat verbatim from what comes out from foxnews or breitbart.

If you break it down logically, they just go into defensive mode, as if criticizing a specific piece of policy is somehow criticizing them (go team politics). I'm not even convinced a economic/foreign disaster will change their minds.

America was great because a great competition was not there when China and India were doing other things. Now every country comes to place to compete, some lazy people in USA feel a great pressure. Also neither parties were good to run this country except the Clinton time.

 

I know many conservatives including some who proudly voted for Trump. I'm a liberal and know many other liberals. I also have friends that range everywhere between the two.

Of all the people on the right that I know and those on the left, none are guilty of the worst things that we see posted here in the different news stories and by some posters themselves.

It would help if people actually realized that the things in the news aren't the norm but the most extreme. That is true on both sides. Counting on real interactions will help re-humanize people with opposing political viewpoints.

 

Yep, and we are not putting the funding into education to help solve that problem instead of doing what the rest of the civilized world is doing by letting college be free or relatively cheap, we continue to make it for profit.

An educated public is good for the country.

There's really only maybe a couple far right posters on this board, but this board is pretty far left so I'd imagine to some right leaning Democrats would be seen as the "far right". As such, there isn't much good debate because a good deal of the leftists on this board have the political IQ of the Anarchists burning things at Berkley as a result of a gay man trying to say things they didn't agree with.

 

There's a Book prophesizing the End Times as we know it and predicts this scenario many many years before we were born.

 

There isn't much debate on this board because if you disagree they will attack your intellect immediately. It is what is. I try to see through their insults and attempt to understand their perspective. It definitely makes me post less and read more which is probably a good thing.

Two sides of the same coin. If you want to have productive discourse, you have to work at it and take the emotion out of it. Nobody was ever persuaded to change their mind by screaming or calling names.

 

They're pretty much our relatives or neighbors. Nowadays trying to talk about it ends up being poisonous for both parties. I don't even try to pretend that me, let alone the other, can be the rational side when it comes to family.

I like this, but there's definitely a "with us or against us mentality" for both.

I haven't received a response to the questions from Conservatives of why they think Liberals are destroying America or why Conservatives still fuming over Liberals even after the Republicans with their vocal Tea Party minority has full control of government.

Maybe I just don't get it and it's easier to talk about it in "polite company".

 

There's one right wing poster in particular who shouldn't ever be responded to because he's an argumentative idiot who will post the same crap page after page after page after page with zero ability to add anything contructive to a discussion. Said poster is universally despised across multiple sub forums here for this very reason and if he was ignored altogether this BBS would quickly become much more enjoyable.

That said, I think discussions with people who hold differing viewpoints are healthy, especially when it comes to politics and people with radically different views from yourself. Staying in a bubble and only talking to people who share your viewpoints tends to just make things worse and entrench people even more into their positions. It's pretty easy to quickly figure out who here in the D&D is a troll and who is actually interested in having an intelligent conversation.

 

Btw, liberals, the more you complain, especially to other people rather than the person you have problems with, lends to the idea you're all the more butthurt because you lose debates all the time. People here love to brag about that they'll absolutely, 100% never talk to someone again and then break that promise because the guy makes points they can't ignore, if they wanted to continue talking about the subject.

Oh well, reality isn't a likability contest. I, personally, can take people's concession in any number of ways.

Why deal with these folks?

First not too much time should be spent on them, but it does add context if one ever ponders how fascism arose in Germany or Italy..

Since I generally spend my time around liberal folks who enjoy a fair amount of success in their lives and don't consume only Faux i.e Fake News and Friends or bemoan that their lives would be so much better if we only did not have affirmative action or immigration, it keeps me in touch a bit with the nutjobs who are the most rabid Trump supporters, some of whom claim to have attended Rice University.

 

Trump voters actually have a higher median income and he got a larger share of the white college vote.
