Just caught this being discussed on Skip & Shannon's "Undesputed" show. I figured it would raise a few hackels although anything that Bill Lamza has to say is worth hearing. As usual Bayless had an on air orgasm at the mere mention of the Cowboys.

Being a Dallas Cowboys fan in Houston, Texas is dangerous business.

For some, the exit from the postseason of the Cowboys, who went into the playoffs as a favorite to go all the way after a 13-3 regular season record, is an almighty blessing. For others, it is a lost opportunity for profit.

“I am working every shift I can this week but I know I would have made more money if the Cowboys were here,” said Cheri Smith, 23, who works part-time at two local bars. “Dallas would have brought a lot more people and Dallas people are kind of flashy. They spend big and tip well.”

With Dallas just over a three-hour drive away, Super Bowl organizers anticipated that the event’s week-long festivities would have seen a huge spike in attendance had Jerry Jones’ pride and joy gotten over the line.

“There would have been a lot more traffic and it would have also been really good for the Houston economy,” local entrepreneur Mykel Walker said. “A lot of people would have come in just for the day and it would have boosted the city.”

Not everyone would have been impressed.

“It makes me laugh when I hear people say that,” said Sam Chilton, a local student and lifelong Texans fan. “The people who say they are Texans fans but that they wouldn’t mind if the Cowboys had made it – it’s simple, they’re not real Texans fans and probably not real football fans.

“If you truly love the Texans, then you truly hate the Cowboys. I am sick of them. I’m sick of their fans and their arrogance, I’m sick of Jerry Jones and I’m sick of this idea that they somehow represent Texas and represent America. They don’t.”

What would have made things infinitely more painful for Texans fans would have been the gloating presence of “Cowboy” Bill, who has made a habit of infuriating his fellow Houstonians with his pro-Cowboys rants for years.

Radio talk show program directors would routinely call him up on a slow night, hoping to get a spirited debate and chatter going, and with a sharp tongue and razor-like wit he never failed to incite some ire.

“It has been a lot of fun because I’m associated with the Cowboys and the people down here are so jealous of the success and notoriety of our team,” Lamza said. “They have been living in the shadows of Dallas success for so long. They still can’t get it together. When they named the team the Texans I thought that was pretty ridiculous because the Dallas Cowboys own this state. The Texans should pay the Cowboys rent for playing here.”

Perhaps unsurprisingly, and much to his delight, Lamza was named third on a list of the most hated sports figures in Houston several years ago.

Given that former Oilers owner Bud Adams topped the list and has since died, Lamza is trying to figure out how to leapfrog ex-Oilers head coach Jerry Glanville into top spot.

Super Bowl organizers want to embrace the whole state of Texas and incorporated much of the region’s culture into its supplemental events.

“It is an affectionate rivalry,” Hasting Stewart, executive vice president for public affairs of the host committee, said. “The main thing for us is to put Houston on an international platform and that’s what the Super Bowl represents to the city.”

Some fans accept that – with a caveat.

“I accept that it is a big event for Houston and we want to do the city proud,” Houston businessman Ronnie Finch said. “It would have been tough for us to have the Cowboys come – and maybe win – in our city, but I actually respect them a lot as a team.”

For all the friendly tones, Lamza can always be relied on to stir things up and admits he would not have been a gracious winner had the Cowboys made it to the biggest game of all.

“It would have been a nightmare for Houston and a dream come true for me,” he said. “My neighbors would probably have moved out.”

This dweeb (Lamza) has been around since the days of the Oilers spouting this BS.

Weird. What's going on with Greenbrier? First the prospect league, now the Texans...

It's only 6 hours from my house. I wonder what it'd be like to go...

790 is reporting that this is a way for B'OB to manage whats being reported in the local media. Harking back at that time when he was crying about how the "all so-tough" local media was allowed too much power by the organization.

Such a weird way to keep answering that question.

Does that mean McNair likes O'Brien, he just doesn't know if O'Brien can coexist with the lifer Rick Smith? Or is that just what they agreed to say? Kind of like O'Brien told players how to talk to the media on hard knocks.

Or,it could be getting a team together away from the comforts of home is a good way to build camaraderie...and having the ability to practice outdoors during the day with out the threat of anyone dying.

Smart move. Temp is much cooler and a easier camp for the players. Training camp in 105+ degree weather is no fun.

I think it's telling though. There is some friction in that Texans power structure.

Nah, only the last 4 are accurate for a CF draft, the top 3 picks would be traded for whatever backup QB the Patriots are looking to get rid of. They'd also trade about half the defense for Tony Romo and the other half for Carson Palmer. CF has awesome Texans hot takes.

That article is so Dallas. I loled twice. That city is so insecure, and their lack of self-awareness is hysterical. Their fans reverberate their insecurity so clearly. Everything is about us, us, us. Dallas, Dallas, Dallas. America's team. Blah blah blah. Skip Bayless is perfect for them.

Dallas' insecurity has lead to their utter lack of an identity. They claim to be the Texas go-to city, yet they try so hard to emulate LA, NYC, and Chicago. Dallas failing at being a non-Texas metropolis is just so Dallas. It's incredible. I love watching it from afar. Everyone there is the same. There is no culture. Everything in that city is over-priced and without good reason. The term "$30,000 millionare" never clicked until I visited Dallas. It's mind boggling to watch everyone try to outspend their meager salaries on material, petty ****. But yeah, that's "Texas". Suuuure.

That's what I love about Houston. Aside from elite food, far more diverse culture, and real Texas hospitality (strangers are actually nice here), we're just our own city. We have an identity. We don't try to be something that we're not.

As a side-note, that's why I'll always respect San Antonio. Apart from their mexican food and Popovich, they don't try to be anything they aren't. They're more Texas than Dallas in my book.

So...Pat McAfee with the most absurd retirement I've ever seen.

Excited to see him at Barstool Sports. Always enjoyed his content. Glad Texans don't have to face him anymore

790am, Proper Gentlemen, just interviewed known Watt Hater, Mike Florio. He said the national perspective is Brock was a McNair move and the Texans aren't perceived to have a line-of-command regarding who makes decisions.

You could have traded down and still got Feeney. Same goes with Magnuson. Don't know too much about the other players. And are you planning on playing Feeney at tackle? Guard is not a first round pick need.

It was supposed to be the other way around(Mahomes 1st, Feeney 2nd) but I had already made the choice and decided to run with it. Turned out better than I thought.
