Or it means Brady is still playing at an MVP level.... and is the greatest QB in NFL history.... and has said he will play at least another 3 years.... and he's the greatest QB in NFL history... and btw just had one of his best overall seasons at age 39... and is still playing at an MVP level... and is about to play in his 7th SB... and is far better than any other QB at age 39 in NFL history.... and did I mention that he's one of the greatest ever to play and WILL dictate how he goes out?

So, you agree that he thinks Tom Brady is far and away better than any other possible QB choice he could have over the next 3 years.... and they do have the ability right now to optimize a return on Jimmy G.

Chances are, the Browns will give them the 12th overall pick.

Farve at that point in his career is not comparable to Brady at this point. Brady is arguably the best QB in the game currently lead his team to a superbowl this year with no signs of slowing down and aspirations to play many more seasons.

No way New England moves on from Brady while he's still productive.

If you're Jimmy, would you re-sign, knowing you may not get to start until you're 30?

Right now Brady is playing a partial season and history has told us that when old QB's fall off, it happens quickly. Peyton Manning broke the all time passing yards record in 2013 and only 2 seasons later couldn't outplay Brock Osweiler. I know that some think that history is irrelevant and they hold out hope that father time will be finally defeated......but it's just not going to happen. Tom Brady will be done sooner rather than later so if the Pats had a potential franchise QB, they'd be moving on to him.....it's the Patriots way.

Brady undoubtedly had a good partial season, but that doesn't mean he's got a lot left in the tank, like I pointed out above, old QB's fall off quickly. They are on top of their game one season and then the next they are total garbage. That will happen to Brady at some point, it's just how it is.

Warren Moon, who has a bit of perspective regarding playing into his 40's... was recently interviewed regarding Brady, and said that he absolutely has a great chance of playing at a high level for the next 3 years.

Moon himself made a pro bowl at age 41.

Obviously, this presumes no catastrophic injury... but if Brady is upright, he's going to be their starter.

If it wasn't for Mallett and Hoyer, I would consider it.

If you're New England, and you thought Jimmy G was a special QB, would you let him go knowing that you could be needing a new QB in as soon as one year? Of course not. If you value picks over the player, then you know he's not special......but you've been able to sucker teams in the past, why not do it now?

They might give them more than that, because San Francisco can theoretically offer the second pick. Doubtful, but it could happen.

It's scary that a team like New England is going to get a package like what they're going to get.

I really don't think the Texans are bold enough to give up what it'll take.

New England is already driving up the market by putting pressure on SF. I believe the story about the Browns wanting Jimmy were from New England. Wait till the Super Bowl is over and Shanahan steps in. Then, there will be tons of rumors.

You're smart enough to realize that Manning had significantly adjusted his game by 2013 to account for his physical deficiencies, that eventually got the best of him.

Tell me, what about Tom Brady now has you questioning his physical health... other than you simply pointing out "it usually happens, so it has to happen.".

No NFL QB has played at this level, for this long, at this age, ever. There are exceptions in all sports for guys who excel at a prime level way beyond what others thought they could or should.

The most important factor is that Brady himself is committed to playing for several more years at a high level.... the Patriots aren't going to pro-actively stop him, while he's in the midst of his MVP-level production, just because of what statistics say could happen to select players.

    Disagree.

If you're New England, you're choosing between Brady and Garoppolo in a year. He's not going to re-sign, most likely, given what he'd command, without a guarantee to start. They won't be able to afford him, anyways, most likely. Unless Brady takes a huge paycut, which he could.

Basically, New England is at a crossroads right now to where they have to pick and choose whether they want some very vuluable picks or whether they want to force Brady out in a year or two, at most.

They're not going to force Brady out. It's simply not going to happen, barring injury or some horrible turn of events in his playing ability. He's shown no signs of that, and has no lingering injuries, ala Peyton.

Sometimes, it's more about players' choice than team's choice.

    That's a terrible mindset.

You can pretty much apply that to every failed college QB then.

Plus, there's the fact that there's an actual market for Jimmy G... there was zero market for Mallet or Hoyer.

It's not that it "usually happens" it's that "it literally always happens".

It doesn't matter how committed players are, at some point age catches up with them and it usually does so quickly when that player is old yet still playing at a high level. By all means though, think that Brady is the exception, that he's literally the only player immune to time.....I'd be willing to bet the Patriots organization won't be thinking that way. If they had a young guy that they were comfortable moving forward with, they'd be grooming them to take over, not trying to find a sucker to give up picks for him.

How much are you willing to bet?

Also, you're vastly underrating Brady..... he's not just playing at a high level, he's the #1 or #2 QB right now in all of football. He hasn't changed his game one iota. In fact, his arm strength, mobility, and accuracy are likely better than they were when he was a younger player.

Favre relied on his athleticism. Manning relied on his arm strength... both lost those aspects progressively prior to them hanging it up. Moon stayed healthy, preserved his arm strength, and was still able to play at a high level in his 40's.

Drew Brees is another example of a QB that is continuing to play at an elite level, and will continue to do so for a few more years (again, bucking trends).

You're also vastly underrating receiving high round draft picks for a QB that won't be of any use to them, regardless of how good or not good he is, for at least 2-3 years.

Lastly, Jimmy G is probably closer to Romo, Alex Smith, Carson Palmer at his peak... than he likely ever will be to Brady/Manning. The Patriots, or any team for that matter, would be willing to part with that sort of guy... if it optimized the final years of their all-time best QB, with their all-time greatest coach, and a team that is on the precipice of being THE greatest franchise of all-time.

Jimmy was a 2nd round pick so that's all I'll offer, maybe throw in an extra late rounder for the Pats development work and time. Take it or leave it because the Texans can easily grab their own 2nd rounder this year to develop or we can pursue him in FA after cutting Brock. Seriously the Pats have no leverage here except maybe a desperate team like the Browns. And in that case I want no part of a bidding war for a young backup, I'll take my chances with my 2nd rounder.

I'd say the Texans QB situation is far more desperate. They have a top of the line defense now. They have quality skill position players now. And they have a coaching staff that has to win now to preserve their jobs.

By all means, if they see a comparable QB in the 1st or 2nd round to what they saw in Jimmy G, then you consider that option... but it will be at least 2-3 years before that player is in a position to do anything well consistently, and you still need better QB play now.

Also, whichever team trades for Jimmy G will be negotiating an extension now.... and given the job security/injury risk issue in the NFL, Garapolo will probably sign that extension.

The Texans do not need to be hoarding picks right now. History has also shown that teams can come back from failed QB for pick trades (Redskins) within a couple of years.

I'd rather take Romo.. and by that I mean just draft someone.. Jimmy G will cost us a draft pick, then BOB won't be able to use him like Hoodie and the Pats will laugh at us. I would go for Palmer and draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd. If no FA are added then get a QB in the 1st, just do it.

Speaking of QB's who look like they're about to fall of a cliff... Carson Palmer, and his perpetually concussed look, is just that sort of player that is showing all the signs of old-man regression.

Romo is injury prone... but still able to do a lot when healthy/upright.

Any drafted QB is going to be a project... even if they seemingly have some initial success.

While I'm still in the camp that wants to see us draft a QB in the first round, the reason why you pay now is because 1) This is the NFL. You only get so many chances at fielding a Super Bowl caliber team. One year is the difference between a bye week in the first round, and missing the playoffs entirely. 2) If you allow him to enter into FA, you'll be competing with a whole host of other teams, and while you say the Pats will let him walk, there's absolutely no guarantee that will actually happen.

Also, are people seriously talking about getting Carson Palmer?? Did you guys actually watch him play last year?? Brock Osweiler was more capable of winning a game than he was. And that's not an exaggeration. He's old, he's slow, he's had knee problems, and he has a weak arm.....what more do you need to know about him??

I'd give up a 1st and a 2nd if you could guarantee me that he will at least put up a 92 rating, move the chains and not throw picks when the right side of the o-line goes matador. The thing is, he could flop, then the people that hailed him as the next chowder hope will be back to fire rick smith, definitely a rick smith hire. B.O.B wants out after coach Welker and chowder backup qb forced on him.

I think the most natural thing is to draft one in the 3rd round, after addressing o-line and safety.
Savage starts the season, gets hurt by week 5 IR, in which we're 4-0 going into. Brock gets the call leads the team to10-4 headed into week 16 when he throws a league record 9 ints in one game. Rookie gets the start. We avoid the patriots til the AFC championship game.

Should be a fun off season headed to the draft.
