How will this effect our ability to shop around in Fa next year?

 

I would certainly give up Harrell, Brewer and 2nds for Ibaka, but that sounds too good to be true. He gives MDA great flexibility and combined with CC a pretty tough set of rim protectors for the play-offs.

 

He just might be what we're missing
Along with another playmaker
And another 3D type player
Oh, and a center that can shoot threes block shots and rebound at a high rate..
That shouldn't be hard. Lebron james can do it, why can le james harden do it????

 

Cod also teased us early in the Kings game thread, mentioning the Birds again (Hawks? Pelicans?) or a Moose (isn't Monroe's nickname "Moose"?) or Bulls (mentions we can be Christians, too, so maybe Cristiano?)

 

If Harrell were yielded in such a trade.....well, maybe if it cleared Corey Brewer from the payroll for the summer. Unless they want to re-sign Ibaka long term. Ibaka in 3, 4 years.....is he already declining? But, again, if it gets Brewer off the books? (Shrug)

 

Look at what Harden has done with Harrell, Anderson and CC.

Declining or not Ibaka would be rejuvenated with Harden.

 

That is why this is such a difficult trade proposal. I like where Harrell is at and progressing. The rebounding is still an issue, but could improve. Plus, I'm not sure how good Ibaka is on D with Orlando slipping to bottom 10 on Defense.

Amazing that this is the guy OKC chose to keep and resign instead of Harden. What were they thinking? He was considered part of their big three, has he fallen off that bad to the point where even Orlando doesn't not want him?

 

No. The trade backfired on Orlando. They wanted to re-sign him and thought they could. He has informed them he's walking.

Sooner than later Orlando's GM will be fired. He's been terrible.

 

Howard is averaging essentially twice as many turnovers this season (2.2 to 1.2) and has more than doubled Ibaka's extremely low TO% (16.7 to 8.2). And Serge is doing this while actually scoring at a higher clip this season. So I'm hardly downplaying anything. Dwight is simply not a very good offensive player anymore.

As for why Orlando traded for him, I have no clue. They already had Gordon and Vucevic in the front court and then added Biyombo for some reason. Nothing that front office does makes any sense. But just because a player is on the trading block doesn't somehow diminish that player's value. Bad teams often trade good players. It's a pretty common occurence, chief.

This. The Magic were tired of being in the lottery year after year, that's also why they signed Vogel. They're one of those desperate teams trying to be relevant, and since they usually have no chance with free agents in the summer, they tried to trade for one.

 

But that logic doesn't make any sense. You have a young kid with a ton of potential who's averaging 16-18 points per game the last two seasons and has a legitimate shot to be a decent two-way star, and you trade him for essentially a 14/7 guy in his late 20s who has been a No. 3 or No. 4 his entire career and has shrunk in every big chance he's had to shine. Any front office thinking "Ibaka has a better chance to be a star in this league than Oladipo" is out of its freaking mind.

Now I do think there's a chance Orlando thought Ibaka would make the team better in the short term and give them a better shot to sneak into the playoffs. But I don't agree with that mindset at all. Bottom line, Orlando has one of the worst front offices in all of professional sports, and everything they did last offseason reeked of desperation.

 

Ibaka was also one of the very few perfect fit with Vuc (a terrible defender). Since there were rumors about them trying to trade Vuc last season, they probably wanted to take a great fit with him cause maybe they saw that nobody was willing to trade good assets for Vuc, so he was not worth to trade.

As for Oladipo, i guess they just decided to keep Fournier cause he's a better shooter (and so a better fit with Payton) and cause he would've been cheaper...not saying that they were right with this move though, just saying.

 

I'd rather give up our 1st round draft pick than get rid of Montrezl Harrell.

Montrezl seems to have improved his shot a lot, and seems like he will develop into a solid rotation player.

- improved shot, has ability to hit consistently from the elbow. Can be an escape valve for failed pick and rolls.

- can defend 1 on 1. He allows us to switch everything on D while he is in the game. This is valuable.

- Energy, Grit... Montrezl seems like the kinda guy that will positively affect the game. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE HIS ENERGY IN THE PLAYOFFS.

 

Guys, Montrezl Harrell is really really effective. Not sure why people are so nonchalant on giving him up.
