Nah, Anderson Comes in for Capella and Ibaka slides to the 5. Let Capella get some rest and then bring him in for Ibaka. Besides, they start Anderson/Nene all the time.
Uh no, this has nothing to do with comparing Ibaka to Dek and Trez, this has to do with asset management. We are not an Ibaka away from a championship. He simply is not that big of a difference maker and its questionable if he even has anything left. Seriously, tell the truth, have you watched any Magic games this year? He is a shell of his former self. It makes no sense to pay a premium for a rental of Ibaka. If you want him that badly, then wait the 30 games and pick him up in free agency, while keeping all your picks and young guys.
If this is an opportunity to move out Brewer you do it. We're going to have to send out assets to get rid of Brewer anyways (a signing I hated from the moment he signed, ). Why not fold them into a deal for Ibaka and Hezonja? Puts us in a better place both now and this summer.
I think someone here mentioned "would rather have Millsap than Ibaka". I'm too lazy to go find it. Well, of course. With Millsap, though, you have to outbid other interested teams (I think we could) and Atlanta has to go through that internal "should-we-trade-him, yeah-but-he's-an-All-Star, maybe-his-stance-has-softened-on-the-trade-thing, but-what-if-we-lose-him-for-nothing, yeah-but-we-can-convince-him, oh-yeah-look-what-happened-with-Horford, but-hey-we-did-replace-Horford-with-Dwight, yes-and-the-whole-team-wants-to-leave-as-a-result" bit. As far as Ibaka, I can't say I've watched the Magic play this year. He's still putting up some numbers but....who knows, anymore? We need a big with his talents. But there's a big piece of duct tape hiding the gas gauge so I don't know what's left in the tank.
You do know he's only 27 years old, can hit the 3 ball, elite shot blocker, knocks down his free throws and has 89 playoff games of experience. With Harden he would have many open shots unlike what he's got in Orlando and I would take Ibaka all day over Ryan Anderson. And he's been a Spurs killer in the past.
You do know that there are multiple allegations that he is actually well beyond 27 years old (probably close to 31-32) and it is clearly demonstrable that he is not just on the downside of his career trajectory, but actually arguably close to the end?
I think Morey would sacrifice a Montrezl or a Clint to bring Ibaka into the fold for our playoff run. That's just me. I would be more keen to hold onto Trez, to be honest. He is a three pointer away from being a completely nasty PF, and I want to give him another year or two to develop that shot.
Well if what you claim about him age being 31-32 then he's still pretty damn good and a hell of a lot better than what we've currently got on the front line. And your opinion about him being on the downside of his career is your opinion, personally I think otherwise.
That would be a weak argument, imo. I understand the salary ramifications and why some might want to wait for the next opportunity, but it seems pretty clear to me that Serge at C in a Mike D'Antoni system would give us an excellent 3-4 good years of basketball at the least.
I would highly disagree with you that Ibaka would provide an excellent 3-4 years. Project out 3-4 years on the end of these visuals of his actuals: Again, I am not against adding Ibaka, but wait till free agency. No reason to send a bunch of players / picks for this guy.
No offense, but I HATE when ppl make general statements without using common sense. First off, Orlando SUCKS. They have sucked for a long time and will continue to suck for a long time. His production on a team rebuilding without any direction will NOT look as good because his team sucks and probably doesn't have a legit role for him. For example, lets look at Eric Gordon. Nobody thought EG was this good playing for the Pelicans. Now he's the best Sixth man in the league and a top three 3pt shooter this year. A casual fan would've said "Gordon sucks!!!" last year. But his role has changed now that he's on a winning team, and it has worked. Serge Ibaka is in the same boat. He's a solid player who's skillset fits our team, defensive mentality, blocks shots, runs the court and finishes. We literally can't go wrong on this
Ibaka fits this team like a glove, he hits the 3 ball (shot 45% in playoffs last season), knocks down his free throws, great shot blocker and tons of playoff experience. Whats not to like.
clint is a beast with harden i dont think we will part with him i know people are dissapoint but he just come back from injury
I don't put much stock in +/- stats for role players. But if you insist, here's what he did in 18 playoff games last year: DBPM = 2.4 BPM = 3.9 VORP = .9 3p% = 45% on 3.7 attempts/gm Compare that to Adams DBPM = 2.0 BPM = 3.0 VORP = .7 Last year was his 2nd best playoff performance ever regarding your three stats. Plus, he was 6th in the league for blocks last year (1.9), in a virtual tie with Anthony Davis and Porzingis. The NBA game today can move shot-blocking PFs out of the lane, if you haven't noticed. Hell, Whiteside is down to 2.0 this year.
I am sure thats true, but Ibakas decline goes back previous to Orlando. He has an age decline trend, slow steady over time, not a sudden drop once he got to Orlando. Statistically speaking Eric Gordon is playing pretty much exactly the same way he has for the past ~5 years. Yes, we absolutely can go wrong on this.
That's all well and good, but as I have stated I have serious concerns with his ability to do this going forward. As I have shown, he is not a peaking 27 year old, he looks more like a declining 31 year old. Fine for a playoff series here or there, not so fine for investing 80 million dollars for the next four years, ESPECIALLY when trading a bunch of youth / picks to do so.
He's not 31 years old. He is not declining in any offensive stats. He is not declining on any defensive stats in the playoffs (on significant number of games). Block shots is also a team role stat. PFs can be moved out of the lane. That's a poor stat to use to make a declining age argument, and he was 6th in the league last year, anyhow....basically tied with Anthony Davis Rebounds is also a team role stat, and he is not really declining on those much, despite Adams there to take those boards last year. bottomline: he's improving on offense each year, and is still the #6 shot blocker in the NBA, and performed great in 18 playoff games last year. imo, you are focusing on blocking stats and not very reliable +/- stats to speculate on his age....speculation. I mean, if you want to make some huge case using Box Plus/Minus stats, I can show you how poor that stat is for role players, especially on defense.
