Ibaka has regressed defensively and is no longer interested in rebounding. The Warriors are a level above this team and unless Ibaka has been taking the past few seasons, he doesn't put us up there.
I continuously see posts praising Serge Ibaka for his defense and rebounding. News flash, Clutchfans: Ibaka is not a good rebounding big by any stretch of the imagination. His career TRB% of 14.3% is at least decent, but the last three years he's essentially hovered at around 12 percent, which is well below average for a starting PF. Now that's certainly a step up from Anderson, but pretty much any PF in the league would be on the glass. I would still love Ibaka for his defense, and I think he'd be an improvement from Anderson. But let's not throw around praise for something a player does at a below-average level.
Also, some of the trades I'm seeing on here make no sense. Why would Orlando deal Ibaka for some combination of our trash, aka Brewer, Ennis and KJ? It makes zero sense for them. The Rockets would have to include some combination of their quality young talent, including Harrell, Dekker and/or Capela in addition to picks.
I think so too. If and this is a big if, he were to rededicate himself to interior defense he would be perfect. Especially since he can spread the floor, and yes that even means mid range. He's become quite an efficient shooter from all around, including from deep. Having 5 wide would be insane. We could run PnR and also add a PnP wrinkle. My biggest concern is cost Vs effectiveness going forward. His age is a huge question mark along with his steady decline. Would he actually help us advance towards a championship or limit our ability to win one going forward due to salary ramifications? This is just something I will have to trust morey on.
That's a fan message board for you. "LeBron James? Well, he used to be good, but see how the Cavs are losing despite their big payroll? I'd only give up Brewer and Ariza and a conditional first-rounder for him, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe."
Morey will do it but this is too much trust as Morey has never won any silverware or trophies so far.
The problem is that Ibaka is an unrestricted free agent and can walk away from any team that trades for him. So essential, a combination of quality young talent and picks is too much for the Magic to ask.
Personally i don't think Morey will do this but anyway, Morey > Clutchfans posters...i mean, if it's for some posters here we would be already without 1st round pick because we would've already used that to trade for Korver, Tucker or Courtney Lee, just saying...
i prefer the defenseless and rebounding deficient ryan anderson at the 4 because of the "extra" floor space he provides and his "quick trigger"
Dude shot 45% from 3 in the playoffs last year, on 3.7 attempts, spanning 18 games. As for defense: Wasn't it common to also say Tyson Chandler had "regressed" on defense and rebounding when Dallas picked him up and won a championship with a revitalized Chandler. Has Ibaka suffered an injury? Is there something physical I'm not aware of. His defense against the Spurs last year won the series, imso. Adams and Kantar get a lot of credit for containing the Aldridge PnR and second-chance points, but it was the defense of Pop's legendary weakside movement by Ibaka that was the key to Donovan's game planning. For instance, their vaunted Hammer Play was shut down. Donovan's decision to use Ibaka weakside vs at the point of the Spurs PnR attack is what took Pops out of his game enough to get flat-out destroyed in 3 games straight to end the series. So, question again, has he lost something significant physically as reason for his drop in blocks, etc. I don't know. Just know he looked good in the Spurs series to me. All said, I would not trade anything for him at the trade deadline, just like Morey did not trade anything for Howard at the trade deadline, before snapping him up in the Summer.
This. If it's anything above rental price, I think the move is to give Larry Sanders a shake for this season and snag Ibaka in the offseason. The only issue with picking Ibaka up off of the FA market is he will undoubtedly be looking for a max. I'm not convinced paying Ibaka max money puts us in a good position long term.
If Morey could pull off a deal for Ibaka, the Rockets would have the best scoring bench in the league. Just imagine Dekker, Gordon and Anderson coming in and draining threes all over folks. Harden Bev, Gordon Ariza, Dekker Ibaka, Anderson Capela
If you bring Ibaka off the bench, you ensure Capella or Ibaka are on the court for 48 minutes of every game. Otherwise, you're playing Anderson/Nene together which doesn't feel great.
Capela is the one who is going to get traded if Morey is going trade for Ibaka. A third team has to get involve to make the deal happen. Brewer has to go too. In my opinion, I really don't care who gets traded, as long as Brewer leaves.
Exactly. Ibaka is simply the odd man out. Aaron Gordon is still young and Bismack just signed a huge contract so those two aren't going anywhere. They expected to be a lot better but due to their struggles, they are trying to cash in by dealing a player from their loaded front court (Vucevic is also there) and acquiring assets. KJ + Brewer + 1st + 2nd round picks would have to be the starting point of trade talk.
Brewer does have to go. If it costs Capella, then its not worth doing. If it costs Harrell and a bunch of picks, then DO IT!
