When I got to my car this morning I found my gas cap off and hanging from its plastic string outside the closed gas cover. Fortunately, the cap was still there, the fuel level was unchanged (almost empty lol), and the car started up and was drivable. The only other thing wrong I could find was something smeared on the rear windshield. Hopefully, it was just kids being kids with no ill intent. I didn't notice any sand or sugar around the intact. The car started and drove fine this morning and I noticed no other things amiss. Does this sound like a failed siphoning attempt, or even someone trying to put crap in my gas tank? I have no reason to suspect someone would target my car out of the others parked on the street, but I do not want to drive around with a car tank full of sugar.
Failed attempt, they couldn't get the hose down into the sump since it was so low on fuel. Waste of money taking it to the dealership. Nothing wrong.
Get a locking cap and store the key same ring as ignition key. Thieves might still break it, but it is a deterrent. Don't drive with less than a 1/4 tank.... better for your fuel mileage and engine.
