I hate these kinds of comparisons. If Hakeem grew up with todays training he'd fit just fine in the league today.
Embiid is bigger and slower and isn't nearly as athletic as Hakeem. His skill level at such a young age is incredible but he plays a very different game than Hakeem did IMO. Let's see how his footwork develops on offense and if he grows into a great rim protector.
Embiid looks brittle as if his legs are still a question mark. Cleveland just won a title so I wouldn't cry for them.
Young Akeem, older Hakeem, doesn't matter. Dream would bust up Embiid. Ewing made the same comparison on a young Magics Dwight Howard, look how that turned out.
He is the best center I have seen since Hakeem - I was wanting us to try to get him while he was injured.....he was the type of low risk high reward player I thought we should have been chasing. DD
He's a beast. Is he Hakeem? No, different styles. Embiid should lose 10-15lbs, get some athleticism back and less stress on his bodies. 7'2, 260lbs is good. In regard to skilll, dude's awesome. No question about it, hope he stays healthy. Love to see him on 34mpg, he'll be a 25-30ppg, 12-13rpg, 3-4bpg for his career. Most of all, he impacts the game leading to wins. He's not empty stats. He's completely changed that for the 76ers.
