This is why they should just deal Wade, Rondo, Butler and Lopez for the best picks or young players possible, and tank next season. They can rebuild in one year, which is pretty decent turnaround. Some of these young guys are bound to be better than they appear, the lack of spacing and inexperienced coaching and poor chemistry must be killing them.
Usually when two teams are bargaining for a star player & then invite a 3rd team, it's usually meant for a sucker to take on a bad contract(s). The Crawford contract is what they are pushing, much like Houston trying to find a sucker to take the Brewer contract. Having said that, I would approve your trade scenario. I would even take a lesser deal. Redick is 0.5 VORP.. ,..not quit sure who the replacement player is...Austin/Wesley/Crawford? I wouldn't mind Mbah a Moute: shooting 40% from 3 (72 attempts) while playing good defense. http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=hubct9b
Jeez I'm glad I missed all the fantasy Butler talk. We would be hard pressed to pull off a Gallo trade let alone Butler. As for Melo to lac I was looking at it also, and the cap ramifications are tricky. Redick is absolutely who I want. It would cost us a 1st, which I'm OK with, because the clippers don't have any future picks. The clippers owe their next 2 1st rd picks and next 2 2nd rd picks to teams. They will be looking to move a player, like Redick, that they could acquire young talent and picks to move to the nyk. Things the Knicks would prefer. I would give up kj/ennis/1st for korver. But is adding that to A. rivers/wes Johnson enough for Melo? I'm sure nyk was looking at trying to get Griffin just like they were trying to get love. Just won't happen imo
I agree that us as a third team means its unlikely we would get to grab someone like Redick. I don't think Phil wants the Crawford contract though. The incentive is there for New York; in my scenario they would get rid of Melo's contract, get a young player in Rivers and just take on two small contracts. The Clippers, in this case, would essentially be trading Redick and Rivers and Wesley Johnson for Melo. Frankly, I don't see Clippers including Redick, they would not have much of a team after this. Also, like you said, why us as a third team if New York can just take Redick themselves, but maybe we throw picks New York's way? I think Phil would rather have draft picks over Redick for half a year.
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=h5l5ge9 i got Knicks: Crawford, Rivers, Jerebko, Jaylen Brown, Jackson , LAC 1st and 2nd Out: Lee, Melo, Holiday LAC: Melo, Holiday Out: Rivers, Crawford, Pierce 1st rounder, 2nd rounder to NYK Celtics: Pierce and Lee, 2nd from Clippers Out: Jaylen Brown, Jerebko, Jackson Knicks starting 5 Joakim Noah Porzingis Brown Crawford Rose/Rivers/Jennings Honestly id waive rose and let him go to Cleveland.
It would be nice to somehow take advantage of the situation. Some teams are deliberately set up to take on salary/player dumps. Salary floor is about $84.7 million. Brooklyn $76 mil (estimated) 76ers $77 million (estimated) Denver $77.9 million (esti). Cavs want Jameer Nelson x same reason Cavs want Mack (see below) Suns $80.1 mil (esti) Jazz $80.6 mil (esti). One reason Cavs are targeting Shelvin Mack/particularly as salary dump. T-Wolves $81.6 mil (esti) All these teams need to raise their payroll or face punishment. I've been pushing for the Rockets to engage with the 76ers all season for that very same reason Thunder/Pacers/Celtics are above salary floor & below salary soft cap....hoping to deal.
This is actually pretty fun. Note: I'm not posting this one pretending it is a joke but hoping people will think this is a good idea. Besides all the ridiculousness in this trade, 4-team trades don't happen with such big players mid-season, especially with three of them being playoff teams in the same conference. But still I had fun with this one! http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=gvog2vv Clippers mess with chemistry and depth but roll dice with Melo and solidify starting line up, make up for the loss of Reddick and Crawford's shooting with Courtney Lee Paul-Lee-Melo-Blake-DeAndre Houston: Morey robs the bank with this one. Only rotation players he gives up is Dekker and Brewer, which isn't a loss when you replace them with Allen and Ennis along with Redick Memphis: Give up Allen and Ennis but get Crawford to boost offense and some young pieces in Dekker and Onuaku New York: Dump Melo; get Rivers and don't take back crippling contracts unless Brewer kills the deal for them, in which case you would: send Brewer to Memphis (I feel like he would fit there, no offense, all D; and send Carter to New York cuz he's expiring), as such: http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=h6k5bn5 @Jatman20 Which you like more?
Rockets need to do a trade to level up their bench power, otherwise, this year is wasting a chance to get chanpion. Harden, will get older next year.
Just looking at who Houston is bringing in (same in both trade scenarios) I'm ok with it. Not sure how much playing time I would give Tony Allen. Tony shoots a fraction better from 3 than Brewer. Love Allen as a situational defensive stopper if need be & expiring contract is good...addition of Ennis & Redick allows me to hide him on the bench if need be. Redick is an excellent shooter. Ennis is about 38% from 3 on about 84 attempts. Good contract on a young player going forward.
I think we should at least net a conditional late second rounder that we'll never see, or even a used prophylactic: Corrections Officer: One pair of sunglasses, also black.....One prophylactic, unused. (makes face at next item, uses pen to brandish offending item) One....soiled.
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=gv9re3j - Rockets throw in 2017 (or protected 2018) 1st to Knicks + POR 2017 2nd to Knicks + rights to Gentile to SAC - It's better than anything Knicks will get right now - esp. if Carmelo says it's okay (Melo would probably only consider LAC, Cleveland, Spurs, GSW, or Htown if he left NYC) - Anderson helps Kings fight to secure 8th spot in West in front of hometown crowd - Rockets get 3 1/2 stars (Beard, Carmelo, Gordon, Ariza) to push GSW & Spurs while strengthening bench Who says no?
This is why I'm not totally shooting down zoplicone trade offer in post #1687. That Brewer contract hangs around the Rockets neck like an albatross. I'm not sure the Rockets can move Brewer this summer with just a first. Teams may want 2 first round picks knowing that the Rockets are up against wall to make a free agent signing (this summer). Tyler can be bought out or traded for your half eaten bag of chips. Brown can't be traded since he was re-signed after the eligibility to be traded the rest of this season date. Bobby Brown would need to be waived again.
We so desperately need interior defense. I had been debating that maybe another knock down shooter would pay similar dividends at a likely lower cost, but the memo is out league wide. We are being murdered inside and on interior defensive rotations. None of capela Montrezl or NeNe is good enough defensively. While I liked what I saw from Noel the other night, I don't think they trade him and out to trade okaefor instead. He's just the better compliment to embiids game. I really want Tyson Chandler now, more so than ever if that's possible. Houston out: brewer/kj/ennis/1st/por2nd Houston in: tyson/barbosa Phoenix out: tyson/barbosa/miami1st(2018) Phoenix in: okafor/kj/ennis/por2nd Philly out: okafor Philly in: brewer/hou1st/miami1st(2018) Adding Tyson and barbosa would do wonders for this team. A quality defensive presence along with a quality knockdown shooter. Both also have experience in MDA system and would come in and not disturb chemistry. Phoenix gets a young talented center under team control to try and build around their core. The lose some veterans but still keep a few solid vets in place. Philly clears the logjam up front while adding a couple more assets for their treasure chest.
Houston receives tyson/barbosa Phoenix receives lopez/bojan Brooklyn receives brewer/kj/ennis/hou1st/phx2nd
