I mean, what can we really expect from a 4th guard who will barely play and signs for vet min in the middle of the season? My mindset is as long as the person can do one thing very very well, we're good. My problem with Ennis/Brewer is they don't do anything really well. At least someone like Neal can shoot. Just brainstorming. I'm getting anxious about shoring up the backcourt. Brown/Ennis have been worthless, and we have had to drag Brewer into the SG position to compensate. That's a really sad situation! Everything else is a bit of a luxury imo. Harrell and Nene have been serviceable and that's with our starter going down. On the flipside, what if James needed a couple of games rest for some reason? Would die if Brewer/Ennis/Brown had to fill in. I'm guessing they won't sign anyone till the date where a lot of buy outs happen (Feb 21 or something?). We're an attractive place for buyout FA's. We can offer slightly more playing time/role than GS/CLE, and more wins than anyone else.
Big discord in NYC with the knicks and melo.... How nice would it be to have him out there instead of Anderson... contract not that bad... 2nd star.... another play maker... can rebound.... play somewhat D... man it would do wonder. Anderson, McDaniels, ennis and 2 1st??? Then brewer, Nene, and 2nd for Gay. Bev/Gordon Harden/gay Ariza/Dekker Melo/Dekker Capella/Harrell Not 1, not 2, not 3.....
Greatest need IMO is athletic long rim protector that likes to run. Noel, Willie Cauley-Stein, Larry Sanders would be my priorities simply due to fit, youth and cost (if going to give up a 1st then it should be for a player with star potential at beginning of career instead of end, and Sanders is all star caliber talent for pennies on dollar and no picks necessary). Tyson Chandler, Joaquim Noah or even Kostas Koufos are secondary targets due to contract size, contract length, age and/or fit. But 3-D wing and another shooter/facilitator are also critical needs that Rockets can also acquire if creativity is utilized rather than outright trades. I would love Jae Crowder, Aaron Gordon, Wilson Chandler, etc. but the cost to obtain these players is beyond what Rockets can offer. Instead why not bring in Lance Stephenson on 10 day. And would definitely sign Jimmer Fredette to back up Splash and Bev. His ability to score and ball handle has never been an issue and we are really talking about end of the bench emergency players anyway, except for the back up 5. Would even look at another stretch 4 options like Perry Jones or Isaiah Austin if Dekker is included in any of the trades. Both guys are young athletic 7 footers who have range, perimeter D, shot blocking and are very athletic guys who can run rim to rim. Again no picks required.
I agree, he chose 2 cancer players while trading 2-3 good players. I would rather keep Brewer over Rudy gay based on their attitudes alone.
Not nice at all if you ask me. Chemistry killer, doesn't see that he's not a superstar, insists on iso, has a no trade clause, is fat, doesn't play defense. He's an excellent iso scorer and absolutely nothing else. I would rather have Anderson and wait for a better second star to become available. Melo could poop in our whole future. And he is obsessed with money and fame so he is unlikely to waive his no trade clause anyway.
Zero chance we trade for melo. He's already refused to play dantoni offense once and the two men don't have any love lost for each other. Dantoni already resigned one job because of melo
We can only do small trades in this deadline. How about this one? To Phili: McDaniels + Wiltijer To Rockets: Holmes + Sastauskas+ 2nd round pick We get a strong young paint presence in Holmes and a nice shooting option which will see some rotation minutes. And a good 2nd round pick in a very deep draft next year. Phili will get McDaniels which can help them with his athleticism and a nice prospect of Wiltijer (which is more hyped than his real potential I think).
Nick Young was apparently offered to us in the offseason for a 2nd rounder and Morey said "nyet". I'm too lazy to find the link, but I don't think the source was "yibada".
Congratulations! Has any other locked on podcast brought in the GM? I'm looking forward to the West midseason report on Locked on NBA. The East one was great. The Locked on podcast series is one of the best ways to keep up with all the teams in the league. (except the Nets). Much better than national reporters who don't follow all the teams and don't have all the inside info. https://audioboom.com/channel/locked-on-podcast---nba-channel
Yeah, maybe you (or anybody) could explain to me the timing of wrapping a first around Brewer & trading him in the summer vs doing the same right now. This season doesn't benefit from the same move being made during the summer. Is it an admission that nobody will take Brewer right now? Rumor had Boston offering a 1st for Lin/Asik that I would have taken. Seems like the Rockets lost more by waiting a few more months after the season. Grant it, that proposed Boston deal has never been confirmed to my knowledge. @D-rock Good answer by the way. I Worry about Lance mindset though. He can be a handful at times.
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=gog8t28 PHX out: P.J. Tucker and Leandro Barbosa PHX in: Corey Brewer and K.J. McDaniels HOU out: Corey Brewer and K.J. McDaniels HOU in: P.J. Tucker and Leandro Barbosa Why the Rockets do it: Barbosa will be a great spark off the bench and can really be our 4th guard, because after Harden/Gordon/PatBev, we have no one to rely on. He also won a 'chip with the Warriors and would love to be back in the playoffs and beat them. He is currently on a 2-year deal, so we would have him next year too, before he probably retires. He is currently shooting 44.5% from 3PT this year. P.J. Tucker is just as good a defender as Brewer, if not better. He is on an expiring contract, so he will probably be re-energized when playing for a contender. Plus he can make a 3PT and rebound. Why the Suns do it: They have the worse record in the West. They have no need for P.J. Tucker at this point, and he will just leave them for nothing in the offseason. They will get a young athletic K.J. McDaniels under contract for another full year and give him lots of playing time with Booker, Chriss, and Bender. Brewer for them is probably just salary filler, but the Rockets can throw in a 2nd round pick, or a euro-stash player to sweeten the deal.
Would love this trade but it's not happening without some better pieces going to PHX. They will definitely want a draft pick and probably the rights to some Europe players
Ye that's not going to happen. Some trades really ignore other teams needs. Phoenix will get much more for Tucker and Barbosa that playoff teams would kill for. We will have to get rid of at least one 1st rounder next year for that trade
