9 diff teams. 7 currently in the playoff race. Largest deficit - 19 to Utah. Avg deficit - 8 pt losses.
Well, there is a bit of a trend to what he posted there. If you notice, most of our losses have come against teams that are capable of playing shut down defense and/or burning you when you turn the ball over.
Memphis and Utah are a tough match up for us. Teams with good 'Harden stoppers', good PicknRoll defense and strong rim protectors and rebounding teams (Oklahoma is not far behind with that tough matchup). Unfortunately we will probably have to face one of the in the first round in the Playoffs so we will need to figure out a way against that game
There is nothing to figure out. The Rockets have one star. Who was the last team to win a chip with one star?
We definitely need to take those losses a little more seriously. Teams like the Spurs, Memphis, and Utah are built for the playoffs. As much as i love Capella and Harrell I would not object to seeing what those two with a filler could net us. We need a real enforcer up front. Our front court is barely going to cut it playoffs when alot of these teams are going to seriously get physical.
I'm not talking about winning it all. I'm talking about a deep playoff run, or even going through the first round.
You don't think Gordon is good enough to be 3rd best player on a champion? I think we have two stars, but not 3.
Well, the refs were pretty bad tonight. I mean, Memphis basically fouls you on every single play but the refs can only call a small handful of them or else their entire team would foul out before halftime. Yet, the refs were calling every single touch foul possible on Houston. The problem the Rockets had tonight was that they lost confidence in the officiating rather than just continuing to play the game. This is a sign that they need to mature a bit more, because there will be games like this where the calls do not go your way but you still need to keep composure and confidence in what you're doing. It's clear the Rockets lacked confidence in that second half and based on the officiating. Yet, if they just sink 2 or 3 more of those open threes they probably end up winning the game.
Well that's how the game is going to be officiated in the Playoffs. That's why I've been wanting to see a little more diversity on the offense. Some more plays from the elbow from D'antoni's playbook. You can't just run the PickNroll every single time
No, the playoff games will not be officiated as poorly as tonight. This was a lopsided affair when you look at the amount of physical contact that Memphis was able to get away with vs the limited contact that the Rockets were. Tonight was one of the worst officiated games I've seen in a very long time (and I was in attendance for this game), it was atrocious from every aspect. Let's just put it this way, if the officials let Memphis get away with what they did tonight in the playoffs, then the Memphis Grizzlies are your 2017 champs because nobody is beating them.
First, good on you for being in the game. It looked embarrassing at the first quarter on the TV with no one in the stands but it filled up nicely later on. The game was not as badly officiated as you think, if you look on the TV. There were some missed calls on both sides. First quarter they didn't allow any contact but as it was a very physical game on both teams they allowed much more contact later on. We can't expect Harden to get those calls in the Playoffs. Especially not to get those 2 in a game 3 point present he gets. We just need to play hard, not complain and keep beating teams for every ball. We played hard, which is good and kept us in the game, but not smart offensively and couldn't take advantage the double team on Harden.
I think the Rox are amazing, we're putting inferior teams away and losing to better teams by single digits for the most part. I know people will say "duh" but that's not really the case, upsets in the NBA happen all the time and I'm really happy the Rockets have been so consistent this year precisely because the biggest gripe with offense-oriented teams (dating back to Don Nelson days) is they are really volatile, they can beat the best teams when they shoot lights out but lose to crappy teams as well when they are off, that's why the "defense wins championships" mantra started because defense-oriented teams are more consistent and thus easier to strategize and plan for. Despite some poster's claims the Rox aren't blowing leads left and right, they have been rightfully putting crappy teams away night after night and to me that's very good because now we know we're just a piece or two away from becoming legit. Since the Rox pretty much trash everyone with lower talent once the Rox get that missing piece they'll pretty much beat everybody.
I think the last 3 or 4 were without capella. If u look at the box scores, we have been out rebounded. We generate a lot of extra possession by shooting 3's but we have no rebounding which allows the other team to beat us in transition. We have bad transition D.
I would be interested in knowing what our record is against teams with a 60% win percentage or above. Are we just beating bad teams while getting mostly beat by good teams?
