Am I reading that correctly? They'll be here May 24th? At NRG? Oh, man. I'm gonna have to run this by the wife. Cannot miss U2. I'm taking her to Coldplay in August; she better let me spend the dough, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, dough for U2.
I thought they were playing the whole thing every date. I'm assuming they are going to mix in some other albums, War, October, etc.
Their 80's stuff was the best, so I'm hoping this is true. 90's stuff was a few hits (i actually liked Zooropa) and then a lot of misses. 2000's isn't even worth mentioning IMO Going to have to cop me some tix! Never been but I imagine their shows are phenomenal
That would be awesome. Would love it if they stuck to everything between Boy and Joshua Tree to honor the anniversary of the album. And don't play anything from that awful iPhone album. I saw them in 86 and 88. Might have to go to this show since it's been so long.
Dang, this is like the only show I've had any desire to see since Rush retired. I may have to attend this one.
it sounded like it would be a two set show. first set would be career-spanning stuff and second set would be joshua tree. i read an interview with the edge where he said that they would not want to play the album in order b/c it is front-loaded with the hits. i can see where he is coming from, but isnt the whole point of these kinds of shows to play the album in its proper order? maybe do side 2 first then side 1. open with red hill mining town and close with running to stand still. that would actually be pretty rad. one of my all-time favorite albums, but my tolerance level for stadium shows is really low (crowds, cramped seating, mediocre sound). plus im in austin. there is a full week b/t the dallas show and their next in chicago. if they add a show in central texas i would definitely want to go though. at&t center in san antonio or even zilker park in austin.
U2 is a crazy band. I saw the original Joshua Tree tour, and it was a sensational tour. But I don't think it was as good as Unforgettable Fire. The album wasn't as good either. It was still a great album, but they were starting to reach the point where they were already at the top and not fighting their way to get to the top. When they are fighting their way to get there is when bands usually are at their best. The Rattle and Hum tour was pour arrogance, and they were mostly crap on that album. Later they were self-indulgent but were somehow comfortable enough to actually make some really good music mixed in with some really crap music. Joshua Tree was the last album where it was all pretty much great, but even then it wasn't as great as what came before. Now I can only think of U2 in the following way. and also
This sounds like fun. Gonna have to go to the Friday one in Dallas though because work and location. I know some folks there and I'll make a weekend out of it. What is there to do in Dallas besides crack and punking douches? Glad we get the Lumineers leg of the tour and not the Noel Gallagher's new way to stay relevant band. That dude sucks. I'd rather give my money to Damon Albarn when the new Gorillaz record drops this year.
This seems to be the new cool thing for old bands and I love it -- The Cult played their Love album in full a few years ago and it was awesome. Jane's Addiction played Ritual de Habitual last year at Fun Fun Fun fest -- it was amazing.
