Ah, is this the newest narrative? Now that the Texans won in the first round and the owner said flat out that he isn't firing BOB I would have hoped this would have all ended but I guess that's too much to ask for. The idea that BOB is going to just step down and go back to college or whatever is completely ridiculous.
I think OBrien wants to leave. A win might actually make it more likely because it makes him look like a more attractive hire
I think a "mutually parting of ways" will always be on the table as long as Rick and Bill are both employed by the Texans.
I highly doubt it. They have him under contract, why would they want to do another team a favor? The owner has already said he's not firing him and plans on him being the head coach next year. Let's just let the narrative die for now, we know it'll be back next year anyway for the 3rd year in a row.
Why would he want to leave the Texans when he has the top defense in the league, and an offense that can be improved this off season? He is in the worst division in the league; the Colts will continue to suck, the Titans will be mediocre, the Jaguars are the Jaguars. Why the hell will Billy O' leave a team with potential for other garbage teams? I can understand he might just want to settle for a college team. But what NFL team is out there that is good to compete? The Broncos and Chargers are out they will soon pick their coaches. If the Texans lose to the Patriots and Billy O' leaves, why will he want to go to the Rams, Bills, or the 49ers? LMAO
I don't know. Ask HIM why he's leaking all this stuff about having tension with Rick and issuing non denials. My theory is he has made the offense a huge dumpster fire. 2 more years of this and his resume won't look so great Lol at Obrien trying to improve the offense again. His acquisitions have been terrible
O'Brien teams look prepared most games. They protect the ball, they don't make too many penalties, and players play towards their strength, look at that defense even after the key losses in talent. They need a QB and that is their biggest blunder so far. Derek Carr was there for the taking in the second round and passed on him. But BOB is a good coach. However if Texans aren't careful they could be like the 49'ers and lose a quality coach and get back to square one, as in bottom of the NFL standings.
If BoB wants to leave, the Texans' job becomes the most attractive opening in the NFL. Coach will be beating down the door. You have a Defense with Watt and Clowney. You have weapons on offense. You just have to figure out the QB situation....Savage, fix Brock, or draft one. Trust me....finding a coach won't be a problem.
Rick leaked a whole bunch of stuff about Kubiak and how all the bad decisions on the roster were Gary's. The leaks leading up to the playoff game were carbon copies of the 2-14 year. Rick also has more mouthpieces in the organization.... he apparently has nothing better to do, while BOB largely focuses on preparing the team (hence telling everybody to just shut up and stop talking).
If true, McNair better cope with reality of dismissing Rick Smith from his capacity. I seem to remember hearing how Rick Smith is Godparent to one of McNairs granchildren. Keep him as an advisor, but relieve him of GM duties.
Isn't it funny that when Kubiak was here, everything about the defense was credited to Wade Phillips. Gary was dogged for the offensive troubles. Why does O'Brien get a pass. He is the offensive coach; the alleged QB guru with horrible QB play. He is not calling the defensive plays, Romeo is. And most of the guys producing on the defense are Rick/Kubiak guys. B.O.B. had a say in the QBs that the team signed and has had a chance to coach them up; yet that has been the most troubled position on this team in his tenure. And all these leaks are annoying. I love the guy, I think he is a good coach but he is not Harbaugh. I don't want him to leave but I do want him to get a better offensive coordinator.
This stuff has mainly (tried) to make Rick and McNair look bad. Doesn't seem like it's coming from them.
There has been more leaks and controversial rumors in the two years here than Kubiak's tenure. The biggest controversy during Kubiak was Peyton and Schaub/Keenum in his last year.
Yep Kubiak's offense was good to elite pretty much every year until the Schaub meltdown. If OBrien has to go be OC somewhere before getting another HC I don't see it working out welll for him
Kubiak got a pass until the 2-14 season, and lost the teams confidence. Few people would have foreseen the total melt down that season he got fired.
Kubiak and Wade were only together 2 years + 13 games. Gary very much took heat for the dumpster fire that was the defense; so much so that McNair more or less forced Wade on him. But, offensively - the Texans were very, very good during most of Kubiak's tenure (and especially when Schaub was healthy, mentally capable), and that was what he was brought here to do. Well, he squeezed career years/winning seasons out of a cavalcade of terrible QBs. But I think the decision to anchor with Brock, and Brock's subsequent regression (seriously, he was much better under, of course, Kubiak) has officially ended the honeymoon. It's been exasperated by continual mismanagement of the roster and in-game decisions. It's his third year and - unlike Kubiak* - he does not appear to be getting better. (* Say what you want about Kubiak but, man - when they diagnosed a problem offensively, it got fixed over the offseason).
