What a contortionist. You are embarrassing yourself and are too dense to realize it. What a pathetic display.
You are pissing on our democracy.

    With all due respect.

Exactly. What happened with the Russians has not happened before, and it isn't something that happens all the time like some folks are trying to pretend.

Stealing military secrets is a time-honored tradition, and everyone knows that. ****ing with an election is uncharted territory, as has been talked about by most of the intel & Dem/GOP communities.

But some people are OK with that because Trump.

When has a foreign country interfered with a US election?

But you are OK with it because of Trump.

Well, to most of their "credit" (sic?), they are less okay with it b/c of Trump and more okay with it b/c GOP control of government and no Hillary in power. I think that's the summation of it; most of these right-leaning posters are like "whew. Trump is an idiot, but at least we can undo Obama-ism. Who cares about the Russian stuff."

nobody is 'ok' with it. That being said who was hurt exactly? my national security was not compromised by releasing Podesta's real emails showing how unbelievably corrupt the DNC is. You want me to be upset about what? That i got more accurate information about the DNC before making my vote?

The answer to "the Russia stuff" is to secure your networks better.

As long as we engage in the same sorts of shenanigans towards other countries - and we do - we will not be taken seriously by Russia, China, Germany, or any other country when an outgoing administration that was recently humiliated at the polls starts whining and crying about this sort of thing as they are packing up to clear out their offices.

Actually we don't. We have done worse in the past, but this is not a behavior we typically engage in with other democracies.

Guys, they hacked the RNC too, so they were apparently not sufficiently secured either, but that's okay. You assume the hackers and Assange just looked at a squeaky clean RNC and said "oh there's nothing important here. Nah. Nothing to see or release. Oh no sir." That's naive, in the extreme, I think. But anyway, honestly glad to hear you're not okay with it, tallanover.

And I've made this point before but "incredibly corrupt" (or similar) is just silly. The hacks showed a political party (which is not a public entity; it's a political club) being a political party. Yeah, it's not pretty, but that surprises NOBODY who follows politics. Of course they were scheming in every way possible to get their long-time club member elected. It's gross. It's American politics as far back as the historical eye can see.

I hope we can all agree that the turtle, who just had his ass handed to him by Schumer, of all people, is a national disgrace. Repubs should get new Senate leadership, IMHO. That would help unite the country, instead of running behind Mr. Chop Block, facemasking asshat jowl man. Cheers.

You guys on the left are insane. Some of you think its ok and 'on par for the course' for foreign governments to steal state secrets. The same state secrets that can compromise our own troops and those of our allies. The same state secrets that can compromise our military systems that protect our military and civilians and of our allies. The left does not take cyber security seriously and their ineptitude on this topic has been exposed several times.

The "Russians" released mindless confidential emails and minor corruption and unethical behavior. Some how you guys on the left find this behavior completely unacceptable and want to retaliate.

Remove the corruption and unethical behavior aspect to this scenario and again, the left wouldn't care.

wrong. You just witnessed 4 of the top 5 DNC members resign over these emails. Not because they showed the DNC behaving normally, but because it showed an unacceptable amount of corruption that the other DNC members would not tolerate. You also got to witness the RNC primary where Cruz and Trump, the two most hated candidates among the Republican establishment, where the last two standing (not gonna count Kasich). The RNC is not even close to on the same level of corruption as the DNC.

On Assange, It's worth re-stating that he is at best a pawn in Putin/Russia's scheme and of almost no consequence in terms of the actual dissemination of the information. Unfortunately even knowledgeable members of the media tend to forget this when they focus on him.

His main purpose in this scheme is to provide a willing distraction/court jester who can divert the conversation by going on Hannity and Infowars, then rubes like the President-Elect have something to point to when they take to the Twitters at 4 AM to discuss great issues of our time.

As stated a couple of times, Assange is just one of many distribution channels for the Russians here - they set up their own websites & twitter, had "Guccifer 2.0" trolling reporters, leaked to other media outlets like Forbes and The Hill....etc ad nauseum.

Assange is nothing more than a willing patsy, rotting away in Quito-on-the-Thames. Irrelevant.

As far as the RNC hack goes - this is all of a piece with the overall Russian operation - leak damaging information on one party, hold on to use/incriminating information aobut the other party for blackmail/kompromat.

Though it's unlikely they'll ever even have to use it given Trump's submissive, servile posture towards the Russians (or maybe they already have either used it or something else).

No problem. They didn't release any of her information in an effort to change the elections. They didn't institute a program of using paid operatives to spread fake news stories in an effort to affect the election in Germany.

Got it? This is something different than business as usual regarding espionage.

Trying to steal state secrets isn't a good thing, and nothing I want to happen. Using stolen information to try and change the course of democracy is different and is worse.

The answer is more than to secure your network. It definitely need to be improved, but it's not the bullet proof answer. If it is and is that simple, we wouldn't have our private and public sector being hacked on a regular basis. So that definitely need to be improved, but that is not enough in itself, and we need to look at what else can be done.

I'm not sure to what extend we hack and try to influence other nations policy, election and so on. But let said we do it quit extensively. It's clear then that we do it in the American interest, and in the interest of spreading our values. For example, we went into the Iraq war, believing that we can spread Western democracy in that region. Not saying it's right or wrong approach (personally believe it's wrong). Putin is doing the same thing. He's trying to influence other nations policy and election for his interest and values. Do we turn a blind eye toward what he's doing simply because we have or been trying to spread our values? No, of course not. And if we aren't happy about our own interfering, we should be working to change that as well, instead of using that as reason to allow our democracy and values to suffer from foreign propaganda, especially from someone that have values very different from us.

The presented proof to the American people the DNC was engaging in unethical behavior. That is all it amounted to.

The proof consisted of the DNC was trying to chance the course of democracy by colluding with the media.

It's not ok. Those caught are punishable by death. Spying and stealing happens and we aren't escalating to war because of it. We lose some secrets and they gain some. But it doesn't have an impact on our nation's government and values.

Influencing an election is not ok. Punishable by ??? - well not sure - it's hasn't happen before. We aren't just losing potential secrets, we are potentially being impacted directly. Impact to our government and values. This is clearly much more concerning than just losing secrets. But of course, I doubt anyone think it warrant going to go to war over it. What we should do about it? That's a very valid debate and it will happen in Congress and elsewhere. Ignoring it, do nothing, putting it aside as if it's nothing isn't it. That's what you have been doing. You don't understand how much impact this may become in the future, if not already right NOW today - we cannot simply allow an opening for our democracy and values to be compromised by foreign power.

Again that's not all it was. They spread fake news stories aimed at changing the election. They paid people to go on websites and spread their propaganda.

Your opinion on this is limited by the fact that you are fine with foreign adversaries stealing documents and trying to affect an election.
